To kickback around the sets? Are they just marking territory, putting down scent? Here's a couple pics from the last 2 days. One of them I caught in the trap 10ft away

Interesting. I don't know why a coyote does that, but my dog does it pretty frequently right after urinating. It seems to an instinctual trait.

Same thing a dog does, sniffs, pees, or poops, does kick back, Territorial marking
I had to go when I stopped to open a gate in a pasture in WY, three days later I was back, the big male did a marking& ect right next to where I went,
I think he decided to show me it was his area

I like having the snow because it makes it easy to read sign, but usually where I see the kickback I see urine

I'm very interested in this. I notice kickbacks all year. I've been puzzled by this because I don't find fox kickbacks. Could it just be the dog DNA in eastern yotes or is that just what they do. I'm very interested in what the western yote trappers have to say on this matter

I've saw it 3 times so far this year and 2 of the 3 times I caught the culprit. I didn't notice this any last season and was wandering if it was because I started using urine and gland lure this season and didn't last year

Just showing that he's the boss that pays the cost. Know I mean?
Feet have scent glands in them. They are just making sure the stink gets out.

I'm thinking maybe you have urine or scent from another set on your boots?

I had one pee on a dirt hole set made with skunky Backbreaker and the packing dirt on Tuesday and did this right next to it. I set another right in the middle of his kickback. He hasn't been back since.

It's possible I did I was wearing a pair of boots I skinned a couple in earlier this month, also could have stepped in my mutts mess in the yard.

Never thought of that but I do know everytime I get near a dog with my trapping boots on they sniff me like they want to hunch my leg, so its possible. I also skin with these boots on. Its always males, or at least the 2 I caught. Will females do this too?

It's nothing on your boots, it's a normal thing they do,
