and the freshly skint deer hits the ground, attracting every leaf and blade of grass within its vicinity like a super magnet, are there any tips for clean up one should know?

Spray it off with a hose then wipe it down with a dry cloth.

We use a water hose on all our animals, if it is an elk or moose we are taking to the butcher we are always complimented on how clean our meat is. My wife shot a little buck this morning and it has been washed and is hanging now. I have heard water will make meat sour faster but have never seen any sign of that and in 60 years I've processed a lot of animals.

No water, causes bacteria or some crap. Well guess what, so does blood, crud and whatever else is in there from your nephews gut shot spike... Rinse the cavity out and let air circulate. I just can't see how not cleaning it out is any better than hosing it out. I do it and no issues here.

On the upside... Congrats on your kill.

Wash all our deer with cold well water immediately after skinning and gutting. Removes unwanted blood, clots, hair, and feces, but most importantly, it helps chill the carcus qhickly for better quality venison. We let the carcus air dry if weather is not hot, then place it in our walk in cooler to hang.
I like to let my deer hang about a week before grinding it into burger.
