Well, 4 weeks from now, August 24-25, Some of the best coyote and bobcat trappers in the country will be attending this gathering, in Lusk, Wyoming. The list grows daily, and people that we haven't seen or heard of for years are calling and saying they 'Will be there'.
The demo list is second to none, and just like last years line-up, some of these guys are the people that taught the people that taught the people giving some of the demos today. Over 500 years of Trapping experience will be showcased at this Rendezvous.
Industry insiders, fur buyers, and even a garment maker or two will be attending. If you want to be in the know, try to attend.
Where else can you see a Wyoming bobcat skinned, fleshed, drummed, and stetched 'Nevada Style', all in an hour, and done by two of the industry's top fur handlers? (Otis Latham & Todd Fairchild) And yes, there will be Latham basswood stretchers and Some of Todd's fur drums available too. (might be smart to order ahead)
There will be calling demo's by Les Johnson (of Predator Quest fame) and also one by Major Bodicker, owner of Crit-r-calls. Major will also do a demo on his finding's while doing predator control over a span of 40 years.
Keith Gregerson will be coming down from Roundup, Montana again, and he'll be pulling his trailer full of stuff that he calls the 'Montana mini-mall'. He has lots of hard to find stuff, and has a great display.
Keith also gives a great snaring demo, and it will info that you'll apply to your snaring efforts the rest of your life, I assure you. His catches of coyotes and 'cats in the late 70's and 80's are legendary in Montana.
Bill and Joel will be coming over from Nevada, and their 'cat demo is the best of the best. They are free with their information, and a lot can be learned from them.
Dave Fowler, a Wyoming W.S. Wolf specialists, and also a WSTA Scholarship fund committee member will be leading off on Friday at 3pm with an in-depth look at wolves, and how to catch them. Wolves are expanding their range, so being up to date on how to catch them is just good business.
I called upon a good friend of mine to come down from Montana to give a talk on long range rifle shooting this year. J.D. Arneson, from Miles city, MT., will be showing some of the tools and finer points that go along with making extremely long rifle shots. He's the real deal, and I've known him since he was a kid. His demo will follow the wolf demo on Friday afternoon, starting at 4 pm.
I'll add in some info in a few days, and talk a little more about what is going to be happening in Wyoming in August.
In the meantime, you can check out the Wyoming State Trappers Association website, or try our Facebook page. Motel info is on there, and the rooms are being gobbled up fast.
Thanks, John
