Anybody own one? I'd like to have one but have no idea what's good and what's junk.

I bought a bacman set from an auction for $50. We set it up around the wood stove at Christmas, kids loved it. I've noticed you can get the reasonably priced used as long as it's not Christmas season.

I have an O gauge layout.

Atlas & Lionel engines and rolling stock

Atlas century 21 Nickle track and switches

You have to figure out what gauge you want to model

There's a bunch of sizes...G ..O..S..HO...N...Z...T

And evah since the computer chip hit the train world ...the possibilities are endless

There's also have the pre- war Lionel stuff

And what they call ..Tin Plate ...from the 1920 and 1930's

Plenty of you tube videos...on making scenery...wiring..

Heck....you can even operate your trains and switches with your phone now

Sounds complicated right from the git go.

It can be as simple or sophisticated as you want it to be.

We all started with a simple loop...and just expanded.

Train shows really stimulate that part of the brain

Nah, depends on what you want. Like was said above, a Bachmann boxed set will get you a basic train and oval track layout. You can go from there.

I guess grown men playing with a train set is still better than playing golf.

I'm just gonna go hunting, fishing, trapping.....

They told me ..I was going to grow old

They didn't tell me to grow up.

I have a complete Lionel set from the 1960's. Not sure if it's worth anything.
