Not from tracks from using the fox pro .
By using the sexed calls on the fox pro usually distinguishing males from females and old from young isn't hard to do.
So, help me get a new wrinkle in my brain....
How do you tell sex of a coyote by its howl or even by seeing one from a distance?
I know how to sex them when they have been perforated and I lift one of their hind legs and look.
Ground check, all our calling is done at night .
Not saying it's a perfect science but according to our data log , 81% of the time we've been able to " sex a dog".
This means by using a "female vocal" on the caller, we killed a female on that stand. Or mainly during mating season using "male vocals" we killed a male during a stand. Sometimes with multiples coming in it's hard to tell which dog we were talking to but hey it's not a exact science.
Once again not saying it's a scientific study but it works for us. We've found if we can get the older females out of a area the rest of the young and males are a breeze.
Therefore the first few times we hit a area we use all female vocals trying to challenge the alpha female in a area. If we take a older female the first time out our success rate usually stays high.
When we first started calling years ago mainly distress calls were used and yes we took our fair share of predators. Very quickly we noticed that after hitting a place 2 or 3 times sightings just fell off. Now coyote vocals is 95% of what we use and it works for us.
