Horse, cat and beaver. In that order.
If I was to use fish It would be crap.

Beaver and muskrat works good for me. But I have good results with any fresh chunked meat, rabbit, deer, etc.

Don't forget porcupine and deer meat.
As for fish. I have no place for it on my land line.

Beav: crap or carp? or are they the same thing LOL

Same thing LOL

I'm not a big fan of rabbit for bait. It really doesn't have much of a odor.
Now mouse urine soaked mouse nests are ten times better then the actual mouse It's self. And If you cage up a bunch of mice they just keep on giving day after day.

I would have to agree with the Beav on the mouse nest ! In a hole, under a rock with a trench, under the corner of a bale of straw is a killer for sure ! No better natural call lure available!

I did not think it was legal to use big game like deer for bait?

I’m talking about wild mice . They have taken over both of my duck blinds and in the fall they move into my barn.

But back to the OP’s question , I’m not sure after watching Robert Waddells demo this past weekend that I would get in a hurry about adding any bait solutions . If I understood him correctly he is a believer in fresh natural baits !

Depends on the state. Some do allow it and some don't.

I don't know what he said in his demo, but I can tell you by the numerous testimonials I've gotten from trappers using my bait solution, it definitely enhances any red meat bait. I sell hundreds of pints of it, and an awful lot of it to repeat customers.

I know I am, I don't taint or add anything. When it gets real cold I will drop a pea sized glob of Predator Plus or Widowmaker down the hole with the chunked red meat.

I have two gallon sized freezer bags full of wild field mouse nests/bedding from my sheds and barn, plus about 20+ fresh frozen mice. Can't what for November! Be the first time I've used either.

Never tried any bait solution , might give it a try this year. Do you soak the chunk meat in it or just add a small amount to the meat ? -Thanks

I have gone as far as putting a live mouse In a baby food jar. Punched a few holes In the lid put a slice of apple In the jar and placed It In a dirt hole. Did I catch some fox ? I did but the mouse nest Is a lot easier.
I'm beginning to wonder If that live mouse deal might work In pocket set for mink.

Paul I’m not gonna say anyone should stop using bait solution ! You and the others that make the stuff have taken most of the work out of making bait for us amateur bait makers. What Robert said was after winning that trapping contest 4 years in a row he thinks one of the biggest reasons was going with strait meat and no additives amongst all the other competitors. I think he raises a valid point if you have a lot of competition or perhaps if your trying to catch the last coyote in a given situation!

Not saying bait solutions don't work. But aren't you creating a lure when you add the solution to the meat.
I'm of the opinion that lure and baits are a separate thing and used In different applications at the set.

Yepper, it is actually a food based lure, but it's still called a bait.

I could see where using something different than everyone else would be an advantage.

Beav that's exactly what one of the makers told me.
I think he was implying that I use too much.
I do use a lot of bait when I use it, in late season.

As far as sauce or not, I make some of each for myself.
And been known to stretch the solution.
