Geese are flying here.

Also, NY says it's illegal to transport a goose once rounded up. It sounds screwy, but probably does a fairly good job of not making your problem somebody elses problem.

The plane in the Hudson was the best thing that could have happened to make people understand something has to be done and the gooses welfare is secondary to humans. Here it's almost like clockwork the 15th of June is kick off.

Goose roundups look like they would be interesting to do.
Are you allowed to give away or eat the geese or do you just have to dispose of them?

I'm honestly not exactly sure what the exact legallities are. I do know that they can be processed for donation, as i am helping to coordinate those efforts for a couple municipalities. But I do not think you can process for personal use, just like you cant skin an out of season coon. Not sure how its all worded... I just do what the state boys tell me i can do.

I have a few permits for shooting and rounding up geese. I don't have them laying here in front of me and I haven't read them very close for years. I used to have the option if I euthanaized to feed people but not profit from it.
I breasted a bunch for the American Legion one time and by the time I was done I swore off doing that.
The breast were small I guess from not flying the muscle had retracted. It was the first time I had breasted a goose in the summer and it was definitely different...delicious though with brown beans, baked potato, milk gravy, cut into goose fingers deep fried in Ky. Colonel flour, a big onion and hot sauce on the side. Oh yeah and the beverage of your choice.
I think I'm gonna do it again.
I mostly relocate to places where they can be hunted. It really has helped the goose problems by relocating. If you take them to habitat where they have mowed grassed and water with shorelines that deter predators they will stay and be shot during the season.
When I shoot geese with the permit or during the season I use the metro choke with sub-sonic steel shot. I put it in a golf bag and pull it out like a golf club and shoot one or two. They become afraid of golfers and usuallly leave for weeks. It makes hazing much more effective. When they start to think its bs and start hanging out like humans are their friend I shoot a couple more.
I usually shoot 1 to 6 per year per course and relocate if necessary.

I'm insinuating if you take them to a good goose habitat many don't come back. Perhaps the adults do but I don't believe the young do. I also don't believe they mate for life. They are promiscuous even when their mate is still around. A lot of goose behaviors are myths. They do not always come back.
I'm not allowed to band or mark the goose to know for sure how many return but I used to remove 100 to 150 from some sites now I do none or 50. If there are less I usually don't relocate just hazing and shooting.

Juvenille relocation is allowed here in ohio, but not mandatory. Shooting not an option at the properties I work for.

Round up season is winding down here. I have 1 more to do next week and that is it for the year. up to 621 total geese captured, with aprox 125 more to go. how is everyone else doing?
