I guess its a good thing that people get upset about so many different kinds of wildlife, keeps up busy. To us it seems like little to nothing, but it's a very big deal to home owners. Hard to understand how benign creatures invoke such fear. Used to do a snake job every spring at a 200 year old home that was actually a relatives house. They had garter snakes living in a den in an open area that went down to the basement and well. I would hang down in the hole, reach down, grab snakes and pass them up to my daughter. Caught dozens at first. Got a nice milk snake once too. After a few trips each year the number was reduced substantially, only a few each year.

I once removed 47 garter snakes from a home, same situation, denning spot.
