Was wondering what all you home brew guys would recommend having for lure/bait making as far as basic equipment goes. If like to start messing around on my own and would like to start collecting a few things I might need. Recommendations on some stuff you guys use that makes playing around even more fun I'd like to hear about it.

Assortment of glass jars from 1 gal down to small ones. A large bowl for mixing formulas. Assortment of utensils for mixing products such as large and small spoons and I use some butter knives too. I got a glass 1 ounce measuring cup and a 8 ounce one, a larger one would be nice too. Eye droppers for measuring small quantities. Cutting board and a grinder are nice. Word of warning playing with home brews is kind of addicting, if you don't have time or cash for a new hobby stay away. Lol if you a are like me you will end up spending more time and money on it than you planned.

It can be a progressive investment over time if you have an interest in such things. It really depends upon your budget as it can be an expensive hobby for some as time will reveal.

Vented buckets or jars for fixing bait

Start buying small food choppers at thrift stores...or food processors and grinders too.

A dry place to work that won't stink up your home

I sometimes use turkey basters to transfer gland tinctures into smaller containers for dispensing..a baster for each critter.

Dollar store or whatever you have in similarity for options will be your best friend for spoons, mixing items, bowls, gal jars, measuring cups etc. Eventually you'll need to really invest into a good grinder, processor and other items if you get serious. Grinder, mixing paddles and a good drill is a must imo. You'll have a smoke show trying to mix a 5gal bucket or larger with a cheap drill.

When I'm mixing in a five gallon bucket I've yet to find anything better than gauntlets. Nothing works any better for time or a nice consistent mix. If you just don't want to stick your hand in, even with gauntlets on, get a sausage mixer.

I guess that method would depend on who's mixing and material being used. The drill is a beautiful thing. I tried to get my kids to hand mix in the past, just wasn't happening.

^^what he said...but I use cattle examination gauntlets, with a pr of skinning gloves inside....in case a gauntlet gets punched thru. Then toss them after using. They are only $9/100 at Southern States.

best advise i was given tool wise was a note book, hard to think of a note book as a tool... but write it all down... you will have a hard time remembering what you did if you don't...jim

Write, date and document items/ingredients/amounts and everything in note form and label each container and tape over the label to help preserve or you will not remember. Very important as things get lost and forgotten years down the road. I still have my original notes and initial formulas from the late 60's and early 70's. Fun to look at those things every now and then some 40 years ago.

lots of freezer space for all your accumulated glands ,meats and other perishable items. And yes write down every thing no matter how small. I thought I had a excellent memory but I have forgot a few things lately. Hindsight writing it down would of saved a bunch of time and money! Once you make a few that work well your mind will be swimming with ideas! Flooding out the things you already know. Best of wishs its truly addictive

It would probably be advantageous to get food grade utensils, mixing blades, cutting boards, etc. They’re designed to give a consistent product without bleeding chemicals.
