Before I state My answer here, and a bit of history, (Knowing Good And Well) here that "ALL" Older Lure Makers that were Lure Makers 30 to 50+ years ago "Do Know"! the strength of *Musk Tonquin, Authentic Materials was like then, POD Tonquin, was like , a fabulous Formula, of Siberian Deer Musk Type I. That HAD TO GO, bye, bye in late 1990's, the best Grade of it developed in the 1950's , 1960's, 1970's early 1980's that contained in Early years about 20% *Musk Deer Pod grains, then as time went by it had to be reduced in %, that definately reduced it's powers. Drop a 1oz. bottle of it on a City, you would smell it on the outbounds of that City!
Available today as SDM Type II.
of what I will give a try here to answer your ??,,, bare with me, for a bit of history first!
There ARE many recipes for *Musk Pod, Tincture,(gallon size) etc. etc. etc. you have to remember there ARE several *Musk Deer species (7), ALL endangered now, I believe, but only (1) of them being the top grade *Musk Pod highly sought after, by high class perfumers in France and EVERYWHERE!
The region of Old (Tonquin) China, on the ancient map of China, were the finest grade of Musk Pods, at The Temple (Buddist Temple Dalai Lama) area of Tibet, over there for centuries, Was! Still is, a Highly Scared Material! And powerful in it's raw state. It is usually dried to contain it's powers. Even then, it IS quite strong!
Just (1) One Grade #1 *Musk Pod, filling many cubic feet of air around it when fresh, but when dried, it's reduced, (but contained), somewhat, until wet again, then it increases it's powers! sustantially!
Being a material that no ship would carry with other cargo for fear that the highly Aromatic *Musk Pods would contaminate the entire ships cargo (even when dried, they had to arrange for private ships to make there voyage with kilos of these highly sought after *Musk Deer Pods.
The lowest use grade coming from Carbadine *Musk Pods, *Musk Deer, Russia, and others.
Most ALL Top Grade #1, #2, #3. etc. *Musk Pods can be Tinctured nicely into, over time into *Perfumers Alcohol (200 hundred proof) with an element of fixatives contained, Real Ambre , being just (1), Or just Good Old 190!
No *Perfumer or ANYONE will give out there *Formula though for there *Musk Pod, Tincture, which can be excepted as logical. It's like Coke a Cola IS NOT going to give ANYONE there Formula, to make, Coke a Cola!
IF one can even obtain Legally! Top Grade *Musk Deer Pod, (Pods), Today, Without going to JAIL! DO NOT PASS GO, AND DO NOT COLLECT 200$! THEY ARE ILLEGAL TO OBTAIN) CITES 1979, UNLESS *GRANDFATHERED LONG AGO! by a Craftsman.
If Lure Makers would do a bit of study, they will learn that most ALL Top Grade *Musk Pods that came to Mr. Walter Arnold, Eq.(Original Lure Ingredient Master Supplier) in U.S.A., in Maine long ago, came by way of France, after The *Perfumers had there way about the *Musk Pods use first.
Although not the subject here, Same IS True about *Real Canton *Musk, from Ancient China, the territory of Canton, Ancient (China) map, came it's *Musk, from a certain *Musk Deer there in it's ancient territory.
So , LOL, The Answer IS here, BION! To some extent.
