SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 05:28 AM

First, congrats to the Big Ten for winning most all of their bowl games.... fine job.

But second, only 2 bowl games really mattered, right? And guess who won BOTH of them?

The wonderful part is, no matter who wins next week, an SEC team WILL be the national champions.

The silence from the Big 10 crowd IS deafening. But I suppose they will be here soon to tell us there would be no SEC teams going to the championship if 2 Big 10 teams had been in the playoffs, laugh laugh laugh

Big10 is here and proud, crow all you want. Most of you are from pathetic college football states so I guess it'd be easy to root for the SEC.
I'm from a state that their college football team is one of the best in the nation, always in the discussion for the title, got the Cavs, Indians,
Oh and the Browns (I hope they draft Baker Mayfield, punk deserves to go to those losers). And of course the best Walleye fishery in the world, big
bucks and great trapping!

SEC SEC SEC, yup congratulations to both teams!!! But neither team really deserves the national championship. Whoever wins the game next Monday will be crowned the national champion but that crown is tarnished and undeserved. UCF manhandled Auburn yesterday, yes that same Auburn team that manhandled Georgia and Alabama a few weeks ago. Crow crow crow SEC SEC SEC all you want but UCF is the true national champion based on what happened yesterday and what happened a few weeks ago when Auburn destroyed both Georgia and Alabama.

Do I think UCF could beat either Georgia or Bama? Before yesterday I would have said no. After yesterday I think anything is possible if they were to play.

As long as its opinion based by a bunch of experts that can be swayed the real outcome will never be known. I was very impressed by UCF, especially their QB.

Surely they are looking to expand to 8 teams now...

There is too many good teams in college football for a 4 team playoff.

If you beloved Big 10 had 2 teams in the National Championship would you be singing a different tune?

Anyway, the best conference will win in the National Chapionship...

Re: SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 02:49 PM

No, I always try to look at things with an unbiased attitude. I really didn't think OSU deserved to be in the game because of the Iowa loss. I figured when Bama lost to Auburn that any chance they had was gone. I do think OSU could beat any of the 4 teams in the games last night, IF AND THIS IS A BIG IF, they played up to their potential on both sides of the ball. Too many times this year they just looked flat, almost like they weren't motivated or inspired. Other times they looked like world beaters.

If you look at it honestly you have to admit UCF should be the national champions based on what transpired over the last 6 weeks. Phil Steele, who is a well known prognosticator-bookie said that he looked for Auburn to beat UCF by 2 to 3 touchdowns because Auburn had way too much defense and speed. He said UCF hasn't played anyone with the overall talent of Auburn!!! Glad I didn't take his advice and bet the farm on Auburn!!! grin

Re: SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 03:17 PM

I watched the Georga/Okla game and that was a good game, Had to leave and didn't see the last one.

SEC better than the rest? Nah.
The game i watched had two evenly matched teams, i couldn't pick the better of those two. And for Bama, until they play a tuffer schedule it's hard to tell how many games they'd lose a season and shouldn't have been there to start with.

Their season schedule is why they dropped behind 2 loss teams when they lost 1 and they shoulda stayed behind some 2 loss teams IMO.

Great season end games and all should be proud.

Now UCF knows how Auburn felt in 2004. Undefeated in the SEC and didn't even get to play for the title....

Is that Auburn team the same team that lost in the SEC Championship? Who was it to which they lost? If Auburn could have played consistent, they might have still had some more bragging rights.

It is a shame that UFC didn't get to play but then again the playoff is there to try ensure the 2 best teams play in the championship. UCF should certainly be top 5 but I'm not sure they had any tougher or as strong of a schedule as any of the 1 loss teams that played in the playoffs. UCF actually didn't even get to play its full regular season schedule this year which included a cancelled game with a Georgia Tech team that beat #17 VA Tech and lost to #11 Miami 25-24. The situation might have been very different had they played.

In any case, the SEC was the weakest I've seen in a long time. Alabama and Georgia were the only consistent teams and Auburn played like champs one week and chumps the next. Alabama played a relatively weak schedule but also beat the #3 ranked team to start the season and ultimately changed the entire season for FSU and perhaps BCS playoff picture when they took out the FSU QB in the first half. The Big 10 looked to be extremely strong for the first three quarters of the season but fell apart towards the end.

The playoff picture will never be large enough but it has been very effective thus far at giving the best teams a chance to play for the title.

I agree that UCF should have had a shot at the title. That is why I really want and 8 team playoff. There are enough bowls to easily go to a 12 team playoff even. Imagine having most bowl games that were actual playoff games. It would be outstanding.

We"ll be talking a lot about the SEC come March too. Several pretty good teams this year.

Re: SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 06:23 PM

I think we all would have liked to see UCF have a chance. But without an 8 team playoff, I don't know how that would be possible. The Georgia and OK game was outstanding! I think both of them deserved to be in there. Clemson was ranked #1, they had to go in. So that would mean leaving out AL, and if they had done that, UCF may well have lost to Clemson, and then Clemson would be playing for a title they have no right to be playing for. AL is the best in the nation, they will prove that next week. An 8 team playoff would have probably weeded out Clemson earlier, and teams like UCF, OH ST, etc would have had a chance to compete.

Re: SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 06:42 PM

None of us on this forum are on the panel to select the 4 teams to play for the National Championship. We can have fun picking what we think should have been in the final 4. I do think Alabama deserved to be there, not sure about Clemson as a mediocre Syracuse team beat them. Oklahoma and Georgia was an entertaining game to watch, I went to bed before halftime of the Alabama Clemson game because I was tired and I was sure Bama would win. How Clemson got to be the number one seed is beyond me. They were the one team in the final 4 that I felt did not deserve to be there. Another awesome game was UCF and Auburn, number 18 from UCG (Griffin) was a heck of a player. Imagine what he could do with two hands. I guess my thoughts were UCF did not deserve to be there. Now I am not so sure. I just hope I live long enough to see Penn State playing in the championship series.

Forgot about UCF, that was a good game also.
Guess they play a cupcake schedule since they were overlooked. Some teams don't get the breaks others do. wink

Re: SEC, SEC, SEC..... - 01/02/18 10:14 PM

Colorado state, fresno state and mercer. Sounds like a lineup of cream puffs straight out of the oven. When one more loss puts you out of the running, those weak teams really help. I am NOT a college football fan per se, but follow it loosely. The SEC has a system that works for them. Why is it in a year when they had a weak schedule were they on the bubble, now sudeendly they are the unstoppable juggernaut? Makes no sense. The top teams in college football and this playoff business is like the NFL, and on any given week either team can win (except the browns). Make it an 8 team playoff and you can take care of 95% of the complaining.
