met our new warden - 01/03/18 01:23 PM

Young guy. Very pleasant. Told me he likes coon trapping. Took time to come over to my house and tag two cats. One my daughter wants to get a rug made from so froze it whole. Needed her to be able to come get it and make some room. Answered some questions on regs for me. I feel for you guys that have to deal with wardens that don't like that what your doing is legal.

I've never had a bad encounter with a CPO - even a U.S. Fish and Wildlife officer when I used to hunt waterfowl.
All have been very professional and courteous to me. But, I never give them any reason not to be!

I have worked with several wardens that I dealt with over my years trapping in Kansas,Georgia and Arkansas while on the road. They were always very accommodating to answer questions, would work with my time frame to tag my cats and otter just before heading home and give some leads to new ground or individuals that may want you to trap etc. As long as you do your part and don't cause problems for yourself you should not have many issues.

The one I have for my county is good and will get back to me if he dose not know about what I ask or let me know on anything.he also make it easy for me to tag my otter also. There was one before him, that I am glad I did not have to deal with.I let it go with that.

We have a really nice guy right now and have had some nice ones in the past. But, we had one that when I met him and told him I was a trapper, he said he didn't trust trappers. Thankfully, he didn't stay long and moved on. He has since retired and I heard he had a job picking fly turds out of coffee grounds.

Ours didn't think it trapping was bad ( he was a trapper himself ) but man he did everything he could to get you in trouble. There were no accidents with him... ticket or try to figure out something else you did. Made you really not want to call if you needed to.

Luckily here in KS our regs are pretty straight forward and easy to follow. Season on furbearers of which a coyote is not one. Spotted skunk must be released or reported if dead. Traps and snares need tagged. Snares must be 50 feet from a fence on a public road unless control trapping for the landowner (landowners agent) or the landowner. Everything is private get permission. Daily check. No traps over 7.5 inches or teeth on dryland. 330's must be in water. Kittfox need a state tag. Cats and otter need cites tagged. Limit on otter. Public display (like hanging coyotes off a dog box in a pickup)of coyote carcasses is a violation. That is a pretty complete summary.
