Yes there are, what do you consider the "best" is the question. If you were locked in a room with all the John Wayne movies but could only watch one of them, which would it be?

When I was a kid, it was "The Green Berets."

Forget John Wayne; Charles Bronson is the way to go! Death Hunt is about Aklavik. You can't beat that. His kid Bronson Picho was good in Beverly Hills Cop to.

Cowboys. But the best Quote in the movie was by Roscoe Lee Browne. "Forgive me for all the men I've killed in anger, and for the ones that I'm about to."

Re: The best John Wayne movie? - 01/13/18 05:07 AM

I guess I have seen about every one that has been mentioned here, and maybe some more. With out a doubt it is The Shootist. If you would read the book by the same title and read John Wayne's thoughts, comments, it will put that into perspective.

Based on the responses so far this is probably blasphemy but I like his war movies better than his westerns. In either case, his movies were great.

I have read from a couple of different sources that when John Wayne started his acting career, he styled himself after Wyatt Earp who had become a friend of his.

It wasn’t a remake.

It was someone else’s adaptation of the novel.

And a pretty good one at that.

Tied between Big Jake and The Shootist.
Both of which had Richard Boone in them, awesome as a bad guy.
