Should never have been that close, after Theilen caught that ball the Vikes should have run the ball 3 times. Kicked the field goal and the game was over. Vikes dodged a bullet, poor coaching at the end.
Me and my brother have been Viking fans ever since we were kids, and this was the first NFL game I've watched all season. Incredible ending to the game but I swear it looked like the saints safety missed on purpose. Either way I'm happy!!!
That player would have a pink slip in his locker. Inexcusable.
Packers would probably be impressed with his tackling.
They would probably pick him up. Cut him like the Packers did Boykin. They need to throw these defensive players in the ocean with their arms tied to show them how important they are. See it all the time.
Eagles what I have read will be a great matchup for MN in MN advantage the way it sounds. MN D travels well and looks like their numbers are better on grass then turf.
Diggs could have handled the post game stuff a little better. I don't know how many time I herd the word "I". In his interview. He did thank god, got to give him credit for that.
Being a Vikings fan since I was seven years old, forty seven years later I will hold my enthusiasm till February 13th been here and done that too many times to say anything!, but (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) I've never seen a finish like that ever. That is usually for a cheesehead or Pittsburg fan to enjoy!
At least thielen is from mn so he will be good outdoors being from the coldest state in the country plus eagles struggled against a falcons team we held to a blowout
Almost seemed to me like the saints defender got to the receiver too soon and let up knowing that if he hit him too soon, he would get an interference call, for sure giving the Vikings a shot at a field goal. Maybe he thought he had help coming??

Minneapolis Star Tribune has a picture of Diggs knealing in the corner of the endzone, obvious to most of us, in prayer. Their caption? Diggs kneals to catch his breath after 65 yd touchdown catch! Gotta love the Lib Trib.

I had a glimmer of hope for that newspaper when it was bought out recently, sadly if anything it has gotten worse.

That's what I thought I saw too. Didn't hear any of the talking heads mentioning it though. They are too focussed on sensationalizing that he will never live down the miss.
glad they won , they did not protest , hope they win it all.
This is an easy team to cheer for. Lot's of high character players and coaches. To my knowledge, nobody on this team ever kneeled during the national anthem this season. Although I'm sure Zimmer made clear what "could" happen if anybody did. When it's your year, it's your year. The Vikings have had more than their share of bad breaks during the playoffs and Super Bowl in years past. They were due for something good to happen. I feel bad for the rookie that made the bad play for the Saints though. He'll have to live with that for the rest of his life.
I would think Brett Farve enjoyed how this ended. I know I did.
I'd like to see the Vikings win against the Eagles. If they don't that's OK too. But, I wanted badly to see them beat, not so much the Saints, but their coach for what he did against the Vikings and Brett Farve. He should have been banned from ever coaching again, not just a one year suspension. I wish him the worst of luck in his career.

Very exciting game for sure as much as it pains me to see. But the offense and Keenum were exposed in this game. Keenum threw up 5 balls that were prayers at best including the game winner. Beat the Eagles and pray you don't have to play the Jags in the bowl.
It was tough listening to the game on T.V. Much more enjoyable with the game on mute on the T.V. and the radio cranked up with Paul Allen commentating. It was quite clear who Buck and Aikman wanted to win. It's unfortunate that a nationally televised game can't have an unbiased broadcasting crew.
The Vikings played a pretty good first half. The defense pressured Brees and his passing was off target. The Vikings offense line gave Keenum time to make good passes.
In the second half it seemed like the Vikings were just interested in protecting their lead. The Saints had the momentum in the second half offensively and defensively. Their offensive line gave Brees the protection he needed to complete passes and the defensive was able to hold the Vikings to field goals. The Vikings were lucky to win, no doubt.

Good observation 7. Not sure how old you are but Minnesota Vikings have been famous for decades for mastering the prevent offense.
Soo....a guy can take the Eagles at home plus 4..... Hmmmmmm
Osky
The ESPN guys and Vegas had the Falcons beating the Eagles. I heard the Vegas odds makers had the Saints over the Vikings. Away from home, the Vikings will need to play a complete game if they want to win, not half a game.
Besides the obvious, one of the great things about that ending was that it was decided on the field, not in the replay booth. How many games the past couple of years have we had to endure these finishes determined by agonizing replay. Did the ball move in his hands? Did he complete the catch to the ground? Did his knee touch down before the ball crossed the plain? Or some flag for a phantom hold or a finger brushing a facemask on the other side of the field? Nice to see it end without a controversy!

It was actually the Defensive Coordinator that did what you are speaking of, but let's not let facts get in the way of a good grudge.

Buck and Aikman suck as announcers.
Go back and watch the ending. One of them made mention of the very point they thought the defender may have held up fearing another interference call.
The rookie who missed that tackle will be fine. Part of what separates the pros from the amateurs is their mental toughness. They know you win as a team and lose as a team. If NO would have won that game it would have been just as easy for Keenum to be blamed for the loss with that boneheaded interception he threw. Place kickers are the ones who have the hardest time mentally and for good reason.
I have nothing against the Saints as a team. They are a young, very talented team. In the coming years they will be a force to be reckoned with. But, will always hold ill will toward Payton and the defensive coordinator. The referees assigned to that game should have been fined or barred for failing to make calls on such flagrant late hits on Favre.

Well and if I was a Vikings fan I would probably feel the same. I honestly don't see how Greg Williams, the Defensive Coordinator, was allowed to re-enter the league. That whole ordeal was his baby.
You are right they do have a very young team. They should be a contender the next few seasons if the front office doesn't go stupid like they have been prone to do. It is either a homerun or strikeout during the offseason with them. No in between.
I feel for the kid that had the miscue on the final play. I suspect he was told to not get a pass interference call under any circumstances. I watched that replay in full speed and slow motion more times than I care to admit. The only logical explanation is that he was trying to avoid a pass interference call.
The defensive player was out of position, if he would have hit Diggs it probably would have been pass interference. If he would have stopped and just tackled him, game over.
When Diggs caught the ball there was still 5 seconds on the clock. It's possible if there would have been contact he could have made it out of bounds. Possible.
Stupid Joe buck, when diggs got interfered with on 6 yd line, he said he couldn't see diggs getting interfered with, I could see in replay saints guy was plainly pushing on diggs rib cage pushing down, I could see his jersey wrinkle up from the push

I agree that Joe Buck is stupid lol.
Let's not talk about the officiating because it is pretty clear the Vikings won the battle of officiating in this one.
I tend not to gripe to much about the officiating because it USUALLY evens out over a season. Unless your the Patriots where the officials are the 12th man lol.
There will be two good defenses playing next Sunday in Phillie. The odds makers still feel that the Eagles QB just is not up to what it needs to be to win at this level. We will how this plays out. The Steelers loss to the Jags will be the message the coaches a New England will use to keep that team sharp and engaged.
Brady is maybe the only other QB with the precision skills of Brees and if he has a good couple games they are going to be really hard to defeat. They will have to beat themselves if they don't win it all.

Obviously being a Vikings fan I am happy with the outcome of the game. That being said I am not really a Saints hater. I did think the 2009 NFC Championship game that is being discussed was pretty sick to watch, but Greg Williams and most of the players from that team are gone.
I have always liked Drew Brees. To me he seems like a stand up guy who has had an excellent career. Even after all these seasons he still plays his position at a very high level and maintains a positive attitude. I remember watching him when he was at Purdue and thinking that he was going to go places and he certainly has. I hope he sticks around for another year or two before he retires. He is a free agent this year, but from the sound of things he is pretty serious about signing on for more time with the Saints.

I think Case Keenum has played pretty well all year. He has proven he can throw the ball downfield, and has shown some impressive mobility. He displays a certain toughness that I like as well. Let's not forget he has a pretty good offensive line and a great core of receivers to help him out. I am not proclaiming him to be the best who has ever played the position, and he does still make some mistakes, but its certainly refreshing to see a Viking QB that isn't afraid to take some chances downfield. Even those that aren't Vikings fans have to admit his story is kind of impressive.
Regardless of what happens against the Eagles I will say he had a great season, and I hope to see the Vikings bring him back as a starter next year.
Been a great QB for you no doubt. Vikings wouldn't be in this position with either of the other two QB's on the roster and that is fact. But with the Offensive Coordinator going to NY you will watch Keenum go along with him. Vikes should have signed him already instead of waiting. Like i said before get past the Eagles and pray that the Pats win.
The other reason I hope MN goes all the way is they didn't protest by kneeling. I was reading this the other day and I see that as a positive for the NFL. I no it has nothing to do in how good the team is etc. but my vote for them to win has gotten higher. Good for them and have shown respect for this country.
I'm keeping my hopes up, it would be awesome to finally win a super bowl Chris Carter said he thought 2009 Vikings would win, he said this team is better than that one

I watched the whole game and I can think of only the one bad "throw it up", and that was intercepted. The game winner was a perfect throw even if he had been tackled or caught it and gotten out of bounds. Don't tell me the Thielen catch where he was interfered with twice was a prayer either....another perfect throw. No, he's not Brees, Rodgers, or Brady by any means. But he's better than anything we've had since 09. And to say the Vikes wouldn't be in this position with either of the other two, you're completely half right. Bradford, no chance. Teddy IF he hadn't been hurt, that's a big impossible if but kind of a moot point considering the situation. I'm glad we haven't signed him and avoided all the hoopla that goes with that. I wouldn't doubt a bit if they offered him a contract and he graciously declined. He knows his situation right now, the Vikes front office know the situation as well. He's going to get paid very well be it here or somewhere else and it very well might be following Shurmur and that might be the best situation for him even if it isn't for the Vikes.
I picked Saints vs. Steelers for the SB.....so what do I know! In a SB matchup if the Vikes got lucky and made it, all respect to the Jags and their defense.....I'll take a matchup against them instead of the Pats hands down for a one game winner takes all. Belicheck is the best coaching mind in modern football and I prefer not to face that in the biggest of games, but if you have to, you still can't be intimidated. All I know is I have no control over it and I'm going to enjoy the ride while it lasts! Happy trapping! ScottW
Well there were 4 other passes exactly like the interception throw that were chuck and duck type plays. The receivers bailed him out by making great plays. Regardless your in the championship game. Eagles are going to be tough but are beatable. FYI I hate the Eagles worse than the Cowboys. Patriots played the easiest schedule of any team in the NFL this year. Vikings had the 3rd easiest and the Jags had the second hardest of all the teams that made the playoffs. Jags linebackers are fast and their d-backs are equal or better than the Vikes and they all tackle well. I to had the Steeler v Saints in the bowl. I would much rather face a 40yr old QB with average offense weapons and average D (ie. Vikings v Saints 2009) over a very young and athletic Jags team with a top notch rookie RB and arguably the best overall D in the league. Good luck to you

I am going to be the odd man out and disagree about the QB's. I think a healthy Bradford may be better that Keenum. This O line is a heck of a lot better than the past couple we have had. Bridgewater may make me eat crow some day but right now he is unproven.
All these if and buts are meaningless though. What we have is what we have today. Heck if Dalvin Cook wouldn't down we'd be a better team and if Wentz wouldnt have got hurt I'd think alot less of our chance of winning this sunday.

The offensive line was asleep in the second half and Case was running for his life too many times. But, give credit to the Saints defensive, they came out a different, determined team in the second half. Whereas the Vikings defensive seemed run out of gas. They failed to put pressure on Brees like they did in the first half.
I'd be more than happy to go over the tape and break it all down with you all. I watch games for what they are and not because of the team playing necessarily. I was trying to be nice and wished you good luck.

I do like Bradford and think he has a good arm. As you eluded to his health is the problem. He has been injury plagued his whole career. Guys like him are risky to gamble on. What are the odds he can finish a season for you? He just hasn't had much luck staying healthy.
I have seen Keenum take some pretty hard shots this year and pop right back up. That toughness means a little something to me.
I am totally unimpressed with Bridgewater. Prior to his injury he seemed to lack the ability to consistently throw downfield, held onto the ball way to long, and seemed indecisive in general. Not uncommon for a rookie, but the problem was he didn't show much progression as time went on. On top of all this he is now coming off a major injury. I used to hear the term "game manager" used for him. Those game mangers are fine if you have a lead and a defense, but get behind and they struggle. I'll take a gunslinger QB who isn't afraid to take some risks any day over a game manager.

It's all good man. I appreciate the good luck wishes. You have to realize us Viking fans are a little fired up right now...been awhile since we have had much postseason "magic" come our way.
I think the Eagles will be a tough opponent this Sunday. It's never easy to win on the road in the playoffs.

Yeah, lots of if's and buts and candy and nuts! If Cook was healthy, if Rodgers, if Wentz, if whoever. Every year is different for sure and it always seems to come around and go around. A 100% healthy Bradford would be nice, but with his track record I just have NO trust in him at this point when it comes to staying healthy. I like a mobile QB who is throw first, run now and then, or if you have to. For example, Aaron Rodgers IMO is my favorite QB in the league and I'd take him over Brady. Pocket passers like Brady/Manning who have the touch, sense of timing, and physical/mental ability are great but they're few and far between.
Keenum is still really somewhat of a question mark (much less than Teddy, though TB had and may still have potential) and no guaranteed future star like this year. With what we've hashed through behind center in my lifetime I'd take a season like this EVERY year if he or anyone else could repeat it. Christian Ponder, Joe Webb, Josh Freeman, Matt Cassel, Tarvaris Jackson, Shaun Hill, Kelly Holcombe, Brooks Bollinger, Spergon Wynn, Gus Frerotte, worn out Donovan Mcnabb....LOL, all those revisions make me cringe compared to what I've seen this year! Granted, talent elsewhere on the entire team along with stable coaching and accountability have helped everyone this year.
At his best, I think Bridgewater would be only a mediocre QB. If Bradford could stay totally healthy, he would be my first choice. But, he is injury-prone throughout his career. Keenum has to be the man. I would look to be finding another QB or two to replace Bradford and Bridgewater.
Cameron I do realize that and I am happy for the TRUE Viking fans. I have worked in Minnesota my entire adult life. I have seen the bandwagon jumpers and fair weather fans. Heard all the excuses and talked football with the homers (which is next to impossible) Enjoy the ride... it's a fun one
Nice attack RAT. Being as you as took offense to that post I would have to assume you fall into one of the later catergories. Tried to be nice.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure RAT was saying he can relate to your having to deal with the opposing teams often delusional fans as coworkers. I know folks who work in Superior, WI and talk about how delusional and ridiculous Packer fans can be at times. Happy trapping! ScottW
Around here it is the Cowgirl fans who irk me. Most of them jumped on that bandwagon when the Saints were so bad and the Cowboys were so good. Every once in awhile some get caught trying to jump back and we have to kick them off the homer wagon.
Woods,I usually don't start the GO Vikings post till game day.So I figured last weeks post(this one) could take a rest. I will start a new one tomorrow. Tom
