Survey:What would rather skin and put up?

So what would you rather skin and put up-all wood boards-no metal stretchers allowed

1) 1200 muskrats
2) 70 coyotes
3) 150 red fox
4) 80 beaver
5) 250 coon

all put up,skinned,fleshed when needed,dried ready to sell finished

This should be interesting-LOL

1st 1200 rats 2nd would be 150 reds..

Rats and beaver are a tie for me.

Dead last are those stinky coyotes. I/m the one guy that is actually happy to see a mangy one in my trap. That way they just go in the ditch and I don't have to deal with em.

That's my speed and no skinning machine

Call me crazy but I'd put up 250 coon just for fun... Well maybe not. Close 2nd would be the reds.

I think the fox and the rats are about equal in value .

Did you notice that all the guys that said coyotes, are up in the good section of yotes! No one in their right mind would want to put up 70 of the rubber band variety that is common here and farther east! I won't tell you what I would like to put up, because there are too many variables. Prime but early caught coon are a joy to handle, compared to the late caught, bit up coon. Heck, I like habdling good badgers, most people hate them! Ok, I'm done!

i used to love to put up beaver and made a pile of money doing it.it all came crashing down though when my partner and i took on 545 mississippi beaver thinkin we where gonna flat out get rich on em.made money but couldn't even say mississippi for about 6 yrs.nasty compared to our northern beaver.

I don't mind doing otter In fact otter are pretty easy.

Rats would be first except I use wire, so that disqualifies them.
Coyotes are the last thing I would choose and I have a skinning machine. Just don't like doing them.
Fox would be second as my least favorite.
By elimination, coon would be first, with beaver second.

Elkguy has got it right. Which every is bringing the $. Although Iv'e never put up those $100+ coyotes. The $75 coons and $14 rats weren't to much of a hassle back in the days.

It is odd that so many trappers have a phobia about using metal stretchers for coyote. Wire stretchers plus belly wedges for air circulation is all I use for coyote and I have never had a problem with them. And yes, I get top prices. Problems on metal stretchers - slipping where skin touches metal - only arise if the pelt is turned before being dried enough. Sure, if the pelt is turned while the skin is still wet, then yes there will be damage.

Wish I had the time to catch those numbers on all them critters! Just the old lady our son and me running the line and putting them up I would take all of them in a season!!!

If I can get help from buddy Mushrat, champion speed rat skinner, I'd take 2000 muskrats.

Western heavy cats are a pleasure to put up.

Assuming I still lived where I used to, hands down 1200 rats. 80 hrs work at even a $4 average=4,800. Coyotes for that area average $20=$1,400. Even if it took half the time to put up coyotes you can catch 1200 rats faster than you can catch 70 salvageable coyotes in southern Michigan.

Really depends on where I caught them. That would drive the motivation factor.

But assuming they're all from a decent place, I'm going with reds, rats, yotes, coons, and then the sabre-toothed whales. That's what a pile of beaver looks like to me. Lol.

1200 muskrats. I'm not set up to do any of the choices on the list.
Beavers take me a long time and I hate everything about skinning coyotes.
