I finally learned what a nite-latch was. Too bad I can't use traps like that here.

Good on you.

The only problem I see with any of them is that most make me wish I knew how to weld

I'll argue with you on the rebar stakes... I would say 3/8 minimum. 1/2" doesn't hold that much better to justify the added weight.

Other than that I think you did a fine job.

Always wondered what size was most commen or needed. But 1/2 inch x 24 inch works great staking out my wall tent every fall

I like these, nice job!

I would retake the drowning set pic without you standing in it. The trap/cable is the focus, but the eyes are drawn away, as the blue is a stronger focal point.

The aggressive drag needs a close up like the grapple.

Try to eliminate any 'extras' in the photos. Example: pan tension has focal point and item of interest. No extras. Now, look at loose jaw pic, background items draw viewer away from subject.

I always enjoy your posts. Thanks!

Re: Making Informative Trapping Memes - 01/19/18 10:04 PM

GREAT idea.

One thing to add: When using drowner Rods or cables, adding a stop 18-24" from the bottom end is a good idea. If an otter or beaver can slide all the way to the end, they can cause big problems. With weights, it's easier for them to move the weights without that stop. With Rods, the lock can slide off or they can pull the end out of the mud if there's a stop too close to the end. How you word this is up to you, but adding a stop 18-24" from the end helps tremendously.

I think he is referring to coil spring traps not the nightlatching

Ooooh, ok. makes a whole lot more sense. I don't know why nite latch would be illegal! lol.

Do something with these. Short latch. No fooling around with two notchs. Much faster when setting.

Don't forget to close the dog loop. If you don't as the pan drops the dog moves forward. It can move forward enough to prevent the trap from firing. Close the loop and you eliminate a lot of "creep". When the pan moves the trap fires if that loop is closed.
