60% of households polled say the economy is worse than a year ago.

How can they report on that when only weeks ago they reported record sales for retail?

To me it depends on who s saying it.

Figures never lie, and liars never figure.

The vast majority of anything reported by the media doesn't stand the common sense test.

I always heard it this way: "Figures never lie but liars sure can figure." Meaning that liars can make the figures say anything they want them to say.

Somewhere back in the early 1980s I realized I was being fed a lie by the media. They turned a liberal into a conservative overnight and I've never looked back. If only more people would realize they're being lied to.

We all live in our own "universe" and choose to believe what we have a tendency to believe. It is too bad that so much of political news ends up being judged truthful or not depending on which party states it. We have been sucked into a society of labels and drawing lines in the sand. Issues are way too complicated for that kind of reasoning to be successful over the long haul.

I want to stick to the news reporting aspect, the below just happens to be one example.

In what universe?

Re: The News - 01/22/18 02:55 PM

There's no question the mainstream media has been in the tank for the Democrat party all of my adult life. I've been receiving stuff from AARP for almost a decade if you were wondering how long that's been.

Can someone point me to anything remotely positive about the 2nd Amendment you've seen on the nightly alphabet news channels? Ever seen a piece exposing anything bad about the abortion industry on the nightly alphabet news channels? How about on CNN? You can't fly in this country without being held hostage to CNN reporting on airport television.

With the country being about equally divided on these issues, it shouldn't take much effort to come up with some examples of balanced reporting on these issues. That would be the case if the media weren't sold out to a particular cause. There's no question it is.

If the President had his way there would only be one TV station. It's the First Amendment that gives us options and makes us work to evaluate "the facts" presented to us. Sometimes just tuning it out for a few days is refreshing!

There should be punishment for not being completely truthful.

Deliberately misleading and hiding behind the first amendment is a cowardly act.

Re: The News - 01/22/18 05:46 PM

I believe most people see the economy as local. As in how their family friends and community are doing. The stock market going up or down doesnt really mean a hill of beans to anyone who is years away from retirement. As most people have retirement accounts and not actively trading and raking profits. Therefore, six thousand point incerase in the dow jones doesn't have much affect.
That said; I believe even our local economy is seeing improvement. Except for agriculture. Government is too involved in that sector to see much of any improvement, or market opportunity.

Re: The News - 01/22/18 06:35 PM

The news should be just that news, all the facts of an issue presented fairly with no opnions. What we have now are right and left reality tv.

FAKE NEWS... FAKE POLLS!

Re: The News - 01/22/18 06:56 PM

It's a shame one has to watch several agencies to get both sides of a story.
Watch the liberal side, 95% of tv today, and they are going down the road against Trump with no evidence to back it up.

Watch Fox, and they have people on air showing evidence of corruption and this is the only place to see it.

Trump is correct in calling out the liberal media, more than he is.

Just today, there is evidence that some FBI agents in question have "lost" 5 months worth of e-mails. Just so happens these FBI agents are the ones throwing the smoke-screen that Trump has Russian ties.

NO,No,No respect for liberals left in this body.
If the Republicans allow this to slide, they lost all respect also. Only reason they would is because they do it also.

It's no secret they make money by NOT fixing things, if they fixed something, the moeny would dry up, but this is over the top when one party uses our gov't spying agencies against the opposing party.

Re: The News - 01/22/18 06:59 PM

Also depends on whether the households polled are in Southern Californicate or rural Nebraska.

Re: The News - 01/22/18 07:18 PM

Here's something to think about........

This sheds a light on the up-hill battle Trump has.......

Over 90% of Washington D.C. voted for Clinton, and 4.1 voted for Trump.

Think about that for a minute. How deep is the swamp down there?

As for Hunting, Trapping and Gun Laws in our favor.....We can forget that, in this environnment we have a better chance of getting smart.

The3 best we can hope for is the Republicans keep the liberals at bay. I've seen no clues that the republicans are gonna push to relax laws in this area, other than the universal carry law which may bring rules in the other direction.

I don't know where they get these poll numbers from that they show on the tv. I have never gotten a call asking how I feel or what my thoughts are on a topic or a situation.

How many of you have gotten such a call in the last year or so? I don't believe most of the poll numbers as usual. I would love for some liberal pollster to call me and speak with me about something. I am sure they would most likely remove me from the next polling calls list.

You guys do realize this is the result of an opinion poll and has nothing to do with if the economy is really doing good or bad . Calling every thing "fake news " unless it is something on fox news is a slippery slope to start down .

It's no surprise that so many think the economy is bad. Some people are blind to anything that doesn't fit what they THINK they should believe.
For crying out loud, there are some who try to make the claim that the economy was worse when Obama left office than when he was elected, even though it improved at an average of over 12% for each of the eight years he was in office.Trump's first year was even better.

Nobody is so blind as those who refuse to allow themselves to see. tired

The market is doing great. The reason: the market apparently likes a non-functioning executive branch and, admittedly, tax reform that any republican president would have achieved. I'll take the gains and tax cuts. The health of the economy is however more subjective and a more long term measurement.

As for news, watch the business news. It is much less biased than CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc. And please, do not get your news from YouTube and Facebook. Those sources only feed you what you want to see and hear.

The market likes security that no new regulations are going to shoved up the rear of manufacturers. People don't spend scared money. I know some of you hate that people that don't have to spend have that kind of power.

When someone is in charged pushing for an agenda that is going to reduce potential disposable cash people cling to it and slow the economy. Just the opposite frees up that urge and yes, it benefits all. Not like robbing them and giving it away but it helps everyone.

And this is exactly how they get the poll numbers. They cherry pick the respondents to get the replies to show the results they want.

I could poll several hundred people and show that an overwhelming majority of people support trapping... Of course the fact that my respondents were all T-man members wouldn't be mentioned.

News agencies should stick to who, what, when, where & why... Not social engineering.

Re: The News - 01/23/18 01:03 AM

The news is no more than a reality tv show. It started out great, 1 hour of news 4 times a day. Everyone watched the news so they ran more and more news. Now they run news 24/7 and it all become a scripted fairytail. I mean seriously 24/7 news is just a live stream of a day, there are not enough events that happen in a day to justify so much news so..... They create the news so they have something to report on, just like reality shows that start off great, but take a full year to make 6 episodes, the next season they create situations to make more episodes in less time and the shows go down the toilet.

Time to flush the news!

That’s why Rush Limbaugh labeled them the “Drive by media” they are just like a drive by shooting; report, report, report, & then gone reporting or making up (hands up don’t shoot ) the next bit of chaos to keep everyone all stirred up and ticked off 24/7. With no consideration of the people that it affects.

I have never drawn a penny from UE nor any other source except for the jobs I have always worked. That does not mean I fault others who have had to take some help even after doing all they could to earn their own keep.
I do find fault with those who are quick to point their finger at others when they themselves have used the help of programs. There seem to be lots of such Americans in these days of popular haterism.
