AR-15 Manufacturers giddy with talk of Bans - 02/19/18 09:17 PM

Seriously, every time the media and left start flinging around the term ban 10’s of thousands of AR’s and hi cap mags fly off the shelves. It’s almost like an attempt to stimulate the economy. You figure any of them have clues into this?

I've never even had the desire to own but, but after reading all the people, even on this forum, saying I should not be allowed to own one, I now want one.

Honestly, they aren't the "be all,end all" firearm. They have a lot of features that make them adaptable to a lot of applications. But they're still just a gun.

But if someone wants to own one and use it lawfully they should be able to.

Re: AR-15 Manufacturers giddy with talk of Bans - 02/19/18 09:47 PM

We've already hashed out that it is going to be impossible to effect a ban on "assault" rifles.

But trying to ban hi-cap magazines is even more impossible. With a little determination and practice anyone can bend sheet metal, make a music wire spring and whittle down a follower out of plastic.

A person could whip out a couple dozen a day from a basement workshop.

I have always wanted to own an AR-15 type rifle but have not had the desire, cash flow, okay I am getting a new gun attitude line up. I was thinking it might happen soon as prices have been better lately and I have been in the mood to buy new guns and cash flow has been decent. The events of the last few days may have changed the price segment of that equation.

I have built a few over the past year and a half. Use mine for winter and fall hunting. Started reloading and will hopefully get into building some bolt or hand guns.

Yeah but with just the mention of it sales quadruple! Then watch what happens to the ammo. I am telling you these gun control but have put more guns and ammo into hands that never really even wanted em.

No big panic yet from what I can see some interest but under the current leadership people seem to feel the 2nd amendment is safe for now, if he looks like he will give then a panic may come about! Right now lots of people looking but few are buying at this time.

11.07 dollars a piece right now go buy a lifetime supply of mags for 130 dollars I figure a dozen per rifle should last most people a life time unless your really hard on them.

if they get banned they last for ever you just use the 10 rounders for practice till you need the 30s

I've been looking a building a 224 valykrie and I've been watching Aero Precision, had a good buy going on. Everything they had yesterday was gone today. Went to Brownells and got what I needed, cost about $100 more, thou. I patiently waited till 9 am when they opened so I get the order in. Not my first, Ar10 being built in Idaho. About 7 over the years.

What type of AR only costs $370? They had some on sale here a year or so ago, and I believe they were around $650. One was a Smith and Wesson, the other a Bushmaster.

sure you can

no bayonet lug , no threaded muzzle , no flash suppressor , no muzzle break, fixed stock so it is not a NY assault weapon but it will still take 10 round detachable magazines

in classic politician fashion they hit every feature that "looks" mean

really a bayonet lug , they are concerned you will stab some one with your gun

smooth bores were ok , it was the 46 cal rifled barrels the Red coats feared so much and banned in 1775

red coat generals absolutely hated it when continentals shoot them of their horse at 3 times the effective range of their smoothies.

I wonder if is stung more when a 69cal ball was picked up melted in to two 46 cal balls and used to kill 2 red coats may not be 2 birds with one stone but certainly two crooks with one ball.

Re: AR-15 Manufacturers giddy with talk of Bans - 02/20/18 08:38 PM

But when they were trying to define an assault rifle they were saying weapon used by the military. So my flint is the same as your AR. Used by our military. The Charleville is not considered an assault rifle though, I checked the web site to verify when New York forced the un S.A.F.E. act on us. My M1 Garrand is safe too. Just cant own an AR or anything resembling it.

I was doing a little looking at the safe act

with a file and a hack saw you could keep from needing to register your AR15 as an assault rifle under the safe act

they hate bayonet lugs , file it off , a hole new sight tower is 20 dollars , not like you were going to mount the bayonet anyways

they hate pistol grips cut it off even with the bottom of the lower receiver , pistol grips hang below the gun the bottom of the gun is the lowest part if the receiver

they hate adjustable stocks , not cool for 6 foot you and your 5 foot wife to be able to use the same gun buy two guns and pin the stock at the correct length for each of you or use a fixed a2 style stock

remover the bird cage flash suppressor , and file off the threads this might be possible to put a thread protector on then drill a hole off center through the threads and put a roll pin through that would meet the definition of Permanent as it has been used in the past , if not silver solder it on based on some videos epoxy might be perminet enough to meet the letter and sprtit of the law

use only 10 round magazines or pin your 30 round mags to only hold 10 rounds.

depending on how you handle the threads you could easily revers all this in a few hours and for about 50 dollars when you can move out of the state

there are other ways where you can keep all of these features but must load it from the top by hinging the action open

I had talk with one gunsmith who sell guns also .He told me at the time after Trump got in that alot was selling there AR 15 and going to AR 10. Even one at a sporting store manger of the gun area told me that also at the time I seen him. It been some time since I was down there. The way he word it at the time that people are buy what they want not what they think they needed at the time when Zero was in office.

Not true, there are plenty of NY compliant AR’s in NY, maybe upwards to 1 million. Safe Act requires no adjustable stock, pistol grip, bayonet lug, or flash suppressor , if you have a detachable 10 round mag., and then no registration. if the 10 round mag is fixed, you can have all of these add on’s.

Otherwise you have to register.

Take a S&W M&P 15 without flashsupressor, replace pistol grip with spur, and no registration in NY. Does it make any sense, no, because it’s still the same rifle and rate of fire. But that’s what happens with no nothing legislators passing laws to appease emotional constituents.

Same here. Liberal politicians and the media don’t have a clue how many more thousands of firearms are been produced every time they talk about bans. Unlike many items, a firearm can last many years if taken care of and will just be that many more on the streets the opposite impact the anti-gun crowd is trying to accomplish.

Re: AR-15 Manufacturers giddy with talk of Bans - 02/24/18 03:00 AM

I never felt the need to own one. If you need a rifle, buy a traditional rife. Who needs 30 round mags, and if it's under 30, who needs a blacked out tactical-adjustable stock-military-looking-foregrip-added-laser-mounted-scope-equipped-gas-operated tool? 2A all the way but there is nothing "cool" about owning an AR-15 or similar platformed weapon. Why can't people just get done what they need done in the field with dad's old Marlin lever action anymore? Why does it have to cost thousands of dollars now? What happened to the bauty of a wooden stock and blued or stainless steel barrel? Almost as bad as those people who go out and buy the retired blue Police interceptors with the spotlight still attached. Cool, you make people tap their brakes when they see you.

I don't dislike anybody who owns an AR, I just never saw the need. Haven't found a traditional rifle yet that can't do what an AR can do, and they're cheaper.

SO wrong in so many ways the "if I don't have one you don't need one" outlook is a scary way to look at things! Just remember some folks out there don't think you need your Dads rifle either because they don't own a gun so they think you don't need one either.

You can get a AR for less then many bolt action rifles not "thousands of dollars". Many guys hunt with them they make a sweet yote rifle and preform well.

As far as the old police car who would not want one a car with 250,000+ miles that was beat to death. LOL Just a cheap car at auction is why most folks buy them.

A self serving view like that is how we lose ground a little at a time because if it's it has nothing to do with me so ban it never stops.

I have never felt the NEED for one but have always had a slight desire to have one. What would be a good starter rifle, that could easily and economically be added onto that would not break the bank to get off the shelf. I have looked at the Ruger which can be bought locally here for $450-500.

If the Trump Administration Session included , Congress, States or any Court including the Supreme Court does 1 change on gun rights or laws I want them to stop and do it the only legal way aloud by our Constitution. Put it on the Ballot in all 50 states and if it is passed adopt it and change the Constitution. Just because all of the above Government agency have done in in the past and gotten away with it doesn't really make it legal even if the Supreme Court upholds it..We have many many examples of their rulings where you have to wonder if they have ever read the Constitution or can understand simple English.. Partisanship and politics has invaded it long ago along with power ego's... We as the Citizens they work for should demand that they follow the law and any changes be done Legally

The irony is that you have it completely backwards. All gun owners are going to lose significant freedoms because the NRA has long been high jacked by crazies and there is an all or nothing platform that is out of touch, not only with the vast majority of American society, but also with the majority of gunowners.
