AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 01:44 PM

With the latest gun fiasco, will AR sales go crazy again, 30 round mags selling out?
Posted By: Birch Tree

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 01:48 PM

Prices are already going up, every time the ban word is used they seem to fly off the shelves. Even PSA is raising their prices already so I imagine they are getting low on parts, their receiver stock is mostly sold out. I want to order another .308 receiver from them, and pick up 2 more multi-cal lowers locally when my permit to purchase comes back.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 01:49 PM

Already has by the looks of things. The left wing nuts are not going to stop this " ban scare " stuff until every man, woman and child has a AR15 or AK47 or both. Its the definition of crazy. To do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome each and every time. Whackadoodles, the whole lot of them.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 02:36 PM

PSA was out of lower build kits the other day , I ordered a week ago and mine has not shipped yet so I suspect they are very busy

picked up another lower the week before , now I am thinking 2 more just to have them in my stash

WRONG !!! Most of the sales are to people that already own one. Those of us that have no use for them don't want one at any price........
Me personally if you gave me one I would sale it. For the way and what I hunt I have no use for one.
BUT to each his own , it is America

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 02:58 PM

Any one that hasn't shot one should. Its the first semi auto that shoots nice enough to not recoil me off the sight picture. I can put 3 rounds quickly into a coffee can at 100 yards nicely. You cant do that with my .270 BAR, and it's very accurate.

I like the collapsible stock, 1 1/2x 6x scope and overall lightness of the gun. It's easy to wield from within my vehicle when I'm just driving around back roads.

If you had an open mind, took it to the range and give it a run, then took it calling coyotes I believe you would probably keep it. I was a bolt action , nice wood man, but after my boys built me an AR, Other than Elk hunting that is the gun that goes hunting and can almost always be found in the truck. And since I've got about 10 more, Still get a bolt now and then, but keep finding new ways to us the AR's.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 03:48 PM

PSA was out of build kits and lower parts kits the other day seen a few that they listed after that but they don't last long. Picked up 2 stripped lowers for $39ea then they went to $49 a short time later. Would think after the last shortage issues the dealers might be better prepared this go a round.

Still lots of the cheap mags out there that the dealers want to dump incase the pendulum swings the wrong way.

My AR is my go to yote gun just invest in a good upper the rest is just details!

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 04:03 PM

The ones that have stocks in the company that make them wants more money so it looks that way now since some are have a hard time to deal with the lack of sales after Trump got in. For all that is going on it dose not take much for something to go up in price. Let see how the ammo will go also.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 04:54 PM

I used to feel that all they were good for was burning up ammo. Then PA legalized them for varmints and small game last year. Local gun shop had a used one in mint condition also lefthanded on the rack for about 1/2 price! Best thing since sliced bread for yote hunting. I love it. Can't wait till the whistle pigs start coming out!!!!!

Looked at a lower for an AR-10 yesterday at my local gun shop...

He's a local one man outfit so I know I can expect to pay a little more. And I'm not going to share his listed price...

But out of curiosity what would an average market price be for a CMMG AR-10 lower with mounted stock?

I can get a new AR here at our local shop for $399

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 05:25 PM

From my experience a lot of dealers were selling at either a loss, breaking even or at a very thin profit margin to keep the cash flow going when stuff was not moving.

Most prices now reflect a slight profit but a lot of that will be lost in listing and selling fees we are not back at the crazy days yet like last time.

PSA has the PA 10 built lowers like that for under $200 just add a upper, get them both on sale or blem parts and the build would be cheap!

So before they came out with the AR you were killing yotes with sliced bread?
Were you using it as bait? Making toast and throwing it like Ninja throwing stars?
Just messin' with you, man.
Before I had an AR in my hands and actually handled it and shot it, I felt the same way you did.

Do you have any data to back up that claim or is it just your opinion?

I've never owned one. I qualified with one in the Army and have shot them quite often when friends bring them to the range. Every time I'm faced with the prospect of not being permitted to own one, I want to buy one.

I think this time I'll "pull the trigger", figuratively and literally.

Can any of you experienced owners point a guy towards a reasonbly-priced, decent-quality AR to be used for hunting, plinking and home defense?

Rock River definitely in the top of the pile for accuracy and tolerance of production rifles. With good ammo I would expect moa or better.
Also the acuwedge that is used to snug up sloppy upper&lower fit by some people on most of the production rifles, wouldn't fit in the R R rifles I have had in the shop, to tight.

I think I can safely say my dad was never interested in AR's till I took him out to shoot some of mine then he started thinking about it , took him out a second time out some months later and he he ordered up the parts to build a 300 blackout AR , he had thought he was good and would probably never buy another gun. but shooting a round he could deer hunt with that didn't make him hurt that was real nice , that he could hole 1 inch groups from the bench was even better but when he could stand up and keep on a steel plate in a group smaller than the kill zone on a deer at 100 yards , it was great , light to carry , hands free with the sling he put on it , light recoil.

so when he dropped a 8 point buck where is stood opening morning at 100 yards from standing , he was very pleased , it was money well spent.

so don't knock till you try it!

gosh your starting to sound like a liberal , Didn't you know next month for spring break were sending every teacher in Wisconsin to Ft McCoy for an intensive 72 hour safety ,security and weapons training. we figured out what to do with all the M9 pistols that are being retired from military service.

yeah start that rumor.

I have tried them. Never was the Rambo wannabe type that wanted to burn thru ammo like scattering corn for chickens.
I got the same problems you described and my 6 MM never hurts when I shoot it. My 700 bdl short action would hold on target just as easily. The "don't hurt you" point is not going to hold water. But Like I've said IT'S AMERICA. One on here said he has 10 of them . Hope he gets 10 more. He can place them around his property when he is invaded LOL

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 10:41 PM

Keep in mind the pressure is in the upper the lower is just what helps you aim/shoot the ARs. If I was to build a AR on the cheap and still have a rifle worth pulling out of the cabinet to go hunting with I'd get a Bushmaster upper ($340.00)and a PSA lower that comes with the EPT (polished trigger) a Magpul MOE stock when they are on sale ($179.95)

You can buy cheaper ARs already built but you will get a cheaper AR then.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/03/18 10:47 PM

Funny thing about 99.9% of ar / blackout/ black guns commercials ALWAYS show people all tacted up like wannabe army rangers or someone defending the Alamo. THE gun companies are not helping the public outlook as they form opinions. City folks are asking why do you need them unless you are going to shoot people.

ANOTHER point you guys talk about how accurate they are . Then answer this why is it that LOTS of the shows on tv that are shooting Ar style have gone to a bolt action vs the semi auto.??? (fox pro fur takers, most hunting shows)

Jbyrd63 his is a AR pistol with brace , the township requires you hunt with a pistol or shotgun .

you can hunt anything else with a rifle but not deer

the make stupid rules we find creative solutions.

we could have built him a bolt action pistol with a brace but the parts were much easier to do an AR pistol , sure there are other ways to skin that cat but this one was a few parts ordered and built on an Other lower receiver.

Got that right. For someone that “doesn’t care”, he sure acts like it. Let him deal with armed intruders with his bolt action rifle, that’s all anyone needs anyway,,,,well, unless they want to win LOL

ARs definitely have their place. It’s ridiculous how many grown adults are scared of them. They’re just a rifle! The dang Va Tech shooter murdered nearly twice as many people as the Florida dipstick, and he used a 9 mm pistol. I don’t hear cries about “no one needs a 9mm”, well, at least not yet. I guess that’s next

there was a trainer a while back he took a pro shotgun competitor on a pump gun and a lady who had come to him with little to no training and had taken some classes but by no means a pro competitor on a AR.

they went 10 rounds on a target , that was the most the shotgun could hold , she beat him for speed same number of rounds on target neither had to reload.

when you can train up a person in a matter of hours to put rounds on target faster than a pro competitor , it seems like a very useful tool for women everywhere to have.

if you use the right ammo the test show not penetrating the second typical wall that would be 2 sheets of drywall on 2x4 studs because it fragments when it hits the first wall , still lethal immediately on the other side but the tumbling pieces across a 10 foot room get caught in the second wall

my go to long gun is the AR I don't leave guns loaded other than the pistol I am carrying so if I need to grab some thing the pistol would be first but the AR is second because I keep it with the mag handy , the AR has a light mounted on it and iron sights the short range aperture is left up all the time so it is like a ghost ring sight.

the second amendment is about a well regulated militia , a properly functioning , well practiced and well disciplined armed citizenry.

What's the difference between a socialist and a communist?

The socialist doesn't have all the guns yet.
Posted By: Birch Tree

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/04/18 03:36 AM

GREENCOUNTYPETE, that large aperture is a low light aperture! At least that was what the Army told me when they trained me, I always keep my AR handy with multiple mags in a pouch ready to grab with a light. I don't use holo sights or anything on my home defense setup just because it is one more thing to worry about.

Marty, that video makes me want to go out and shoot, I have considered trying the 3 gun challenge but I need to setup a shotgun for it, I have a .45 and plenty of ARs, I think I would prefer the .308 with iron sights class, seems more challenging but it ALL looks like fun.

I have shot IPPSC and CowBoy Action competitions, I can tell you that an experienced shooter using 1900s guns can be just as fast as the new stuff but it is the reloading that slows you down lol, mostly the handguns, a practiced lever gun and shotgun shooter can seem as if they never empty their guns. My old 97 Winchester shotgun was easy to keep shooting without ever loading the tube magazine. (I am slow as heck today though, haven't shot a competition for quite a while lol).

I sure like my little Rock River Arms .556 . I can keep it on target and keep squeezing off and it doesn't hardly kick, and the target doesn't leave my scope view . No wonder folks like them.

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/04/18 04:22 AM

In the military I shot lots of bullets with the m16 and yes like the ar15 the recoil is amazing. They are great guns.

I prefer wooden stock bolt actions. I actually prefer the heavier weight of the older guns.

Like mentioned before we all can choice our own preferences to what guns we like but we all share a common goal to keep our 2nd amendment in tact.

I would say what gives the ar15 a bad rep as really it is only just another semi auto but these guns have been exposed to society in a different way.

The ar15 changed the perception of guns with its faster shooting and bigger magazines capacities. More people building them and looking more like military assault weapons.

But yet these guns we know are no more dangerous than the old ones as it still takes someone to pull the trigger. If the current laws were enforced it would of prevented lot of crazy people from using these guns giving them a bad rep.

I don't have any ar15 but I hope they stick around as I think they have thier place in the market. Maybe someday I will give up my old ways and get one.

Like 330trapper said its a generation thing.

was at the gun show today , I worked the kitchen but got a chance to walk around some

30 round plain metal mags 30 dollars , 20 rounders 25 dollars but they didn't seem to be moving much at that price

plenty of rifles to buy AR lowers going for 139 , bunch of people wanted to much for their AR

some ar parts fairly priced

I think I can safely say the best sellers were brats , Hot dogs and pop well at least from my view.

somebody must have been selling stuff , the parking lot was packed

Aix, I would tote it the bench and back all day long. If I had been rich enough to pay what they wanted for that beast, I would proudly own it now...

But I wouldn't want to carry it around a combat zone all day... It was heavy enough with the mag empty. Lol

I was at a Gun show in Grand Forks N.D. on Saturday. There were lots of tables with AR stuff. I seen one guy with Magpul 30 rd mags for 10.00 and was not selling out. Lots of uppers and only seen one walk out the door. A guy from Minot N.D. had complete AR's for 450.00 each and never seen one sell. Many stripped upper receivers and stripped lower. The AR stuff just wasnt selling.

I never seen much of anything sell.

I hear ya. I’m not saying I have buyers remorse, because I don’t, but I sure would like to have a Socom 16. It’s the one I started out wanting to buy, but I ended up getting the loaded stainless. The Socom is short, and I think it’d be more handy for quick shooting. Almost 3 lbs lighter as well. Maybe one day...

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/05/18 02:01 PM

I went and visited my local sporting goods store Sunday.

The AR15 rack was about empty. Usually there's up to 2 rows of guns.

Some were even buying the combo .223/300 Blackout by Ruger.

the show is a club fund raiser I go work because I reduce my dues by half working 2 shifts , I don't have to work very hard either there is a fair amount of bull shooting going on , yesterday they had me run the cash box for the kitchen. till we sold out of food , the door brings in money as does the kitchen ,selling out all the tables insures we don't loose money everything else I think is money int he bank. we were selling pop for 1.50 a 12oz can hot dog for 2.00 Brat for 3.00

I would trade my very heavy LR .308 for an M1A1/M14, awesome rifle from the get-go! They maybe heavy but my LR is heavier still, think she is a bit over 12 pounds with the heavy match barrel. I am going to sell that barrel and put on a longer lighter barrel. Prices have come down on custom barrels.

WRONG !!! Most of the sales are to people that already own one. Those of us that have no use for them don't want one at any price........
Me personally if you gave me one I would sale it. For the way and what I hunt I have no use for one.
BUT to each his own , it is America

I used to feel much like you. I think they are ugly and I have no use for one for hunting purposes. I have a single shot .223 that I use for coyote hunting and much prefer it over the AR-15 for hunting. I have an M1 Garand for rifle shooting matches and for use as a national defense rifle. So, I don't really have any use for an AR-15

But I sold my old SKS a month or so ago and then bought an AR-15 just a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I figured the .223 Rem would be cheaper to shoot and I already have reloading dies for it. Now, having had one for a few weeks I can see why most shooters find them so appealing.

1. .223 ammunition is probably the most economical rifle ammunition to buy right now. So AR-15's are relatively inexpensive to shoot.
2. They are very light weight and easy to handle. The way they quickly break down into two pieces without needing any tools makes them appealing for use as a general camp, truck, or canoe gun.
3. They are just fun to play with if you enjoy guns and shooting as a hobby. There's numerous options to customize them for the way you want to use them. You can set them up as a night-time hunting gun with infrared sights, lights, illuminated scopes, etc. Or set it up as a battle rifle so you can pretend to be Mr. Tactical, the special operator. Or set it up as a competition match rifle like I plan to do. Or just leave it stock and have fun plinking cans and targets.
4. They are currently desirable to own by a large number of people and easy to re-sell at a fair price.
5. Everyone American minuteman should have a good battle rifle at the ready in case they should be called to come to the defense of their state and nation. The AR-15 serves this purpose very well because it is chambered for the current military/NATO cartridge and replacement parts for it would be commonly available.
6. The AR-15 is the most commonly used rifle in the Civilian Marksmanship Program and National Rifle Association high-power rifle target competitions. These are time-honored, rifle marksmanship contests endorsed by the federal government in an effort to improve the rifle marksmanship of the general population. You would not be allowed to use most of your hunting rifles in typical high-power rifle shooting matches. But the AR-15 fit right into the service rifle matches.

Personally, I can see where you are coming from jbyrd63. I think AR-15's are ugly and not a very good choice for a hunting weapon. They are definitely not an example of the fine art of gun making. Their cheap plastic, anodized aluminum, and dangling bits make them atrocious looking things, I think. Plus, I find all the wannabe Delta Force operators "running the AR-15 platform" to be especially annoying, foolish, and ridiculous. But other than that, AR-15's make excellent "fun guns" for plinking and economical general shooting, competition target rifles, and freedom rifles to have on hand if our nation should ever need to be defended against foreign enemies. While I still prefer a small shotgun for home defense purposes, I can see why an AR-15 would be a good choice for defense of home and hearth for those living in the country where shooting at a varmint at 200 yards is more likely than shooting at a burglar in the house. There is no doubt that the AR-15 fills a reasonable, useful and utilitarian role in the average shooter's gun cabinet.

The AR-15 - it's not just for the Rambo wannabe's anymore!

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/05/18 05:15 PM

it is somewhat amazing , every time we go to war the brass says hey it's taking to long to train these enlisted men to shoot again , it should be second nature by the time you get to 18.

it started the NRA soldiers after the civil war were appalled by the lack of knowledge so many recruits had with a rifle that they formed training for civilians so that should we go to war again we teaching men rifle basics wouldn't need to be as large a part of the training .

I think they said the same thing after WWI and started the DCM Department of civilian Marksmanship today we know it by it's new name the CMP Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Most of the 'new' gun owners that I come across think that once they make their purchase they are now good to go.

That is especially true for the new handgun owners/carriers. If you offer to take some time out of your day to give them some training they look at you like your nuts...they really think that training is not necessary at all.

Its a sad situation....

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/05/18 05:22 PM

Firearms acclimation and training should be mandatory in school from age 12 on, If you ask me. It should be a prerequisite to the eventual military service some youth will experience. If we had that going on in schools, there might lie the nessessary armed presence to keep our kids safe within the instructors themselves .

The guy that owns the nutrition store I go to also goes to my gym so I have talked to him a bit about different things..

The conversation turns to guns....winds up he carries a Glock compact 9mm. Lifts his shirt and he is appendix carrying this Glock with no holster....chamber empty.

Well, maybe the chamber is empty.....but who knows for sure?

laugh

Someone like that is someone who may very well wind up arming an unarmed attacker...

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/05/18 05:52 PM

very sad so many think they need no practice or training , my neighbor was at the range with a friend of his , nice guy about 25, wife and 2 little kids , he even practiced , but didn't really practice right he had a new to him Ruger 345. wanted to borrow my screw driver set to adjust the sights , I asked him which way he was moving them, I ended up helping him asked if I could try dry firing it a few times I did that got the feel for the trigger then with a a target at 25 feet I asked if I could try a few and see were it grouped , I put 3 rounds in the center of the black of a fresh target , so then he know it was him we spent a few minutes working on his grip and trigger control with dry firing , it got him his group size down considerably and if he wasn't on the middle of the target he knew it was him and he needed to slow down and concentrate on grip , sight alignment and trigger squeeze.

I think part of it is their expectation of what the gun can do and what they feel is "good enough"

they think dinner plate at 20 feet slow fire is good they have no idea that most pistols can do that at 50 yards some at 100 it just takes the right training behind the grip

In my own native state of Massachusetts, the battle for American freedom was begun by the thousands of farmers and tradesmen who made up the Minute Men -- citizens who were ready to defend their liberty at a moment's notice. Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of America, cannot succeed with any lesser effort.

The one's saying we don't need our guns are the ones that will curl up and cry if the fight ever comes to them and they will point the finger at others to save their own hides. We might have a ammo shortage now and then but there will be a rope shortage maybe some day too! LOL laugh

Re: AR 15 sales? - 03/05/18 08:33 PM

The gun grabbers have no inclination of themselves being the ones to come for the guns, they will have no problem making good honest cops/soldiers do their dirty work and die in the process. It is sickening how these people think, they are 100 times worse than what they call a president who sends troops into war.

If it ever did get to an open civil war, it should be over pretty quick with the lack of spine the antis have, once a few hundred of them are lying in the street in their own p*** and s*** the rest will act like French citizens!

I'd say bring back the Guillotine. It's amazing how history tends to repeat itself given enough time.
