Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/26/1804:27 PM
Got a few request to start a hockey thread. So who's going down in a ball of flames and missing the playoffs or tanking when the playoffs starts. Who's going to be the hero and step up to lead their team to victory.
The favorites look like the B's ,lightning, preds, jets , leafs and Vegas. Looks like the defending champion is playing deck hockey, maybe it's impossible to win a 3 peat with the cap. Time will tell....
Only a half a dozen games left to make the playoffs, this is the best games of the year and only get better in the months to come. For those that don't make it you'll prolly get a high draft pick and an extended golf season.
So what does the trapping hockey fans got to say about their teams ?
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/26/1808:21 PM
I'd like to see the Leafs take it.The talent is there this year, but they have been known to choke before.Plus their American star,Austen Mathews who is a great player, seems to be prone to injury and the tough guys will be after him.And the Leafs don't have a real enforcer.

I don't care who wins and I may watch a game at the gym...I am pretty confidant there will be no kneelers so no need to get in any arguments when I turn the game off....

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! No Wild fans on here. Definitely the dark horse of the post season play. They are at the top of their game right now. GO WILD.....................
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/27/1801:16 PM
Wild fan here! I'm excited to see what Greenway can bring in these last few games. Anything can happen in the playoffs, hoping for a deep run this year.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/27/1801:28 PM
Wild have been one of the better teams in the league since Christmas. Have definitely been flying under the radar though. They have had a couple bad games against bad teams, but have been quite consistent overall.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/27/1801:59 PM
The NHL playoffs are so unpredictable. Seems with all the parity that whoever gets the most lucky breaks is the team that wins. An inch either way on a shot that either hits the post or goes in can be the difference between winning the cup or going home. Goaltenders have to be "hot" or just plain lucky, however you want to look at it for any team to advance. The Wild are playing well right now, but are going to have to get consistent goaltending and a little more scoring to go deep in the playoffs.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 03/28/1803:31 PM
Think it may have been my wifes fault Pens lost that one. She kept flicking on that new show during the breaks. Took the zump right outta me. Yeah, blame her lol.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/01/1805:15 PM
Jets beat the Leafs last night in the battle of Canada. Both our teams have what it takes-Jets may be a bit ahead of the leafs-but get ready boys-The cup is coming back to Canada in the near or not too distant future! Wouldn't that be an epic cup final !! Jets vs. Leafs GO JETS!!
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/01/1805:28 PM
While the Jets and leafs look good. Good just don't win the cup unless your team was great. Time will tell but the Jets will go further than the leafs. The cup is staying in the states again.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/01/1805:49 PM
Good PENS game tonite! With some better team defense they will be alright in the playoffs. Anybody else go to a Pens game and think that an order of nachos can't cost the same as a 330 Duke?

If you go in the lower bowl to watch. It'll cost a few dozen of mbs.

Ness muck; Quote One defenseman down...other bruins out.....and a back up goalie...In your barn........Your toast if we meet up again !
Blah blah blah-we had guys out as well-always excuses-you lost the game! e'll see if we meet again in the playoffs-Marchand is such a dirty player! He's gonna get his yet.Cannot stand the guy-although if we had him on our team we'd love him! LOL
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/02/1802:00 AM
I heard the NHL commissioner, asked the Pens in an interview this morning,to slow down and give other teams a chance as it isn't good for the league if we win every year. Just what I heard today. Crosby said he felt this request was unreasonable, and added that if the other teams wanted to win they should skate harder. He said he understood the other teams lobbying to have the Penguins team divided up to create league parity but hopes this is voted down at the spring owners meeting. 4/1/18

How are the Pittsburgh Pirates doing? Is anyone interested in the 2018 version of Pittsburgh- the City of Champions Shirts we are going to be printing?
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/02/1802:12 PM
Disaster has hit the Wild. They lost for the season their most irreplaceable player in defensemen Ryan Suter, with a broken filia. He's one of the best defensemen in the league, and the team captain. He lead the league in minutes played three years ago, was second two years ago, and third last year. Now they replace him with a player that has played in 18 NHL games. They've lost their two most valuable defensemen in Suter and Spurgeon. Suter was the best defensively and at keeping the puck in the offensive zone, Spurgeon the best offensive defenseman. It's going to be tough to advance far without those two guys.

Winnipeg seems to have the Wild's number this year, but anything can happen in playoff hockey.
Parise's getting hot right now, Staal's a beast and Neidereitter always seems to come up with some big playoff goals. He sure hasn't had much of a year so far. Wejust need a few guys to get hot and start putting in some production. Granlund would be a good start....
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/12/1802:26 AM
Pens put on a clinic for the flyers tonite. No shots on goal for the flyers during their 4 powerplays. Matt murry got his 3rd straight shutout in the playoffs.
Jets came from behind to take their 1st ever playoff win.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/12/1804:09 AM
Garbage call that led to the Jets PP goal, otherwise a good game and the right team probably won. The wild cannot allow 35+ SOG to the jets and expect to win. Got a little chippy off and on. Should get interesting.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/13/1805:42 PM
The Wild are in trouble. Winnipeg could win the cup, although I realize its only been one game. They are big, physical, and fast. This series will be over in four or five. The Wild really miss Suter in a series like this, somebody who can move the puck out of the zone.

Meh-its playoff hockey-lots of calls get missed and very few get called. It is what it is.Minnesota is a good team and they won't go down easy thats for sure. What about the mauling of Perrault? It never got called. They actually went after him and knocked him out of the game-brutal-but thats playoff hockey.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/14/1812:52 PM
I had hope till a first round match up with the Jets... I'm happy they left the "team" alone this year the over paid free agent thing has proven it don't work hockey is a TEAM sport...

need a good game that aint 4 or 5 nothing when i flip it on.Toronto was terrible, the men of the war of 1812 would be let down right along with our dear friend Boco.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/16/1802:23 AM
The Wild won, but Winnipeg spent a lot of time on airplanes trying to land in the blizzard we are having. They looked tired, especially their goalie. I switched over to the Minnesota Timberwolves/Houston Rockets basketball game when the hockey game was over. My gosh, no comparison in entertainment value. The NBA sucks. Dribble down, shoot, and complain about not getting a foul called. Then call a timeout.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/17/1810:53 PM
Well its showtime in Minnesota this evening-about an hour away-Lets hope our Jets win this evening!!! We lost Myers for this game and apparently Minny lost Parise to a broken sternum-when did that happen? Holy cow thats an ouch for us and the Wild-well GO JETS GO!!

Seems this kind of crap happens every year to the Wild. Stall gets crosschecked in the head, the other team goes down and scores, then the guy that crosschecks gets an assist on the goal.

Instead of the Wild having a 5 on 3 for about a minute, the Jets killed off the original penalty and go down and score. That's the breaks the Wild seem to get in the playoffs. But they weren't going anywhere anyway. And now that Parise is gone, they surely have no chance to go deep. They just don't have the necessary playmakers. Time for the Wild to reload, if they haven't advanced past the second round with this core of players by now, they never will. Their best players are getting old.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/18/1811:23 PM
Excellent backhand feed by Sidney Crosby for the first goal ..... He just tied my all time favorite player Mario Lemieux for playoff points by a penguin ..... Crosby is not my favorite guy in the league but he has a wicked back hand shot ....
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/19/1812:36 AM
Morrissey was suspended for one game for the cross-check. I'd trade the suspension in a second for the one minute 5 on 3 the Wild would have had last night.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/19/1801:41 AM
Avalanche looked great against the Preds at home on Monday. I am hoping for a repeat of the same domination. Need all the wins we can get while at home! Go Avs!
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 04/19/1801:52 AM
Have not been watching as close as some years. Is Pittsburgh rising at the right time or are the Flyers just playing that poorly? The Golden knights are very quick, who do you feel matches up the best with them? The Stanley Cup has to be the toughest trophy to win, a team needs to win 16 games to win the cup which means up to a total of 28 games could be played if all went to 7 that is really a tough climb after playing as many matches as they do to get there.

vegas only scored 8 goals in the whole series against la .... they are a good team but will need more offense to advance .... a couple of teams that look good to me so far are Winnipeg and tampa bay ....

The Flyers just played that poorly!
No idea why Flyers start a goalie who missed the last half of the season with an injury, and then apparently returned with no glove hand stoppage ability..... and then suit up another goalie who missed almost as much time.
Why not dance with the one that brung ya? Mrazek and Lyons did the stretch work to get them into the playoffs. They should be the ones suited and in net.
Also, why change everything you've done all year? No blue line defensemen slapshots, mixing up lines, trying to play wide open hockey with Pittsburgh?
No wonder they are losing. In typical Philly fashion, look for fire sale trades in the off season that will haunt the Flyers for the next 10 years.

You can't even begin to compare the two in significance, the head tap was meaningless, he didn't get injured, probably barely even felt it. Had no bearing on the game. How many cross-checks have the refs let the Jets get away with? The no-call very well cost the Wild the game. Instead of the Wild having a 5 on 3, and after that another 4 minute power play (the penalty should have been a major) the Jets go down and score assisted by the guy that should have been thrown out of the game. Plus when the cross-check happened, it took Stall out of play, he laid there on the ice while power play went on without him. So technically, it was no longer even a power play. Then didn't return for the rest of the period, and he's the Wild's only 40 goal scorer. How can you compare that to a meaningless head tap? Everybody talking about it today on the sports radio stations said it should have been a two game suspension because he should have been ejected from the game Wednesday. I would agree.

Washington has to play one good game to move on Pittsburgh has to play two The Jets have a good combo of speed by strength bu fewer lapses in their game than does the Golden Knights which are also very fast.

Pens had a great ride the last 2 years and it was great. Like all good things come to end. Congrats to the caps, the pens will be back next season. Hopefully they heal up on the offseason.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/08/1802:24 AM
Personally I expected the pens to lose this series. They just didn't have the depth players to compete this season. A couple of bad trades and the salary cap put the boots to the pens. Prolly would guess and say most of or all of them were injured. The last 6 weeks of the regular season they were just awful, playing very inconsistent.
On a side note crosby moved to 10th all time in playoff points today passing Steve yzerman.

Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/11/1802:03 AM
I like both hockey and baseball even though they have very different aspects to their games. Interesting however that many very good Baseball players are good hockey players as well and vice versa if you learn to skate. Speed, hand eye coordination and knowing where the puck or ball is going to be are all quite similar skill sets.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/11/1803:34 PM
We best get our slo-mo glasses on to watch the Golden Knights play the Jets. There is a ton of speed on both teams and it plays more like collegiate hockey, which is fun to watch and play for that matter.

I wouldn't want to take reeves or byfuglien , he might be the strongest but he ain't the fastest skater. Whoever wins tonite might have a leg up on the competition.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/19/1812:20 PM
Maybe that series with the preds was too tough on em and busted em up. Vegas got done with their last series and the Jets went 7 games while Vegas was relaxing. It's prolly the difference now.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/19/1803:27 PM
From what I can see,the difference is the goaltending.Fleury has been standing on his head, while Hellebuck has let in some soft goals that were winning goals. The only shots that beat Fleury are one timers or flukes.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/20/1803:47 AM
Been gone for a few days but was able to view parts of the last 3 games. Both the Jets and the Golden Knights are speed teams but I felt the Jets were a bit more physical and thus would influence the pace of the game a bit more. Several games to play yet so we will see how this goes. I feel MAF and his veteran status is holding that team together very well. As to the Capitals? The first two games were totally different then the last two, which door will open the next couple?
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/20/1810:00 PM
Vegas has only lost 3 games in the playoffs this year. They are the 1st team going to the stanley cup final. Guess we'll have to see who makes it from the east now.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/21/1802:20 AM
Was doing a demo at our district 8 trapping rondy today so missed the game. I felt that series would be more even than it turned out to be. Goal tending is looming large in these series.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 05/24/1802:25 AM
Caps are going to vegas to play for the cup. The bolts really let this series slip away. I did see somewhere the bolts are like 3 -12 in game 7's, so I guess they like to choke.

Excellent save for sure. Holtby was very good in that game. The Capitals are using their center ice play to slow down the Golden Knights and it worked in game 2.
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 06/03/1801:41 PM
Ya the Capitals played well this evening-Golden knights did not seem to have the hunger they have all year.Lets hope the Knights don't collapse now that they are down a game. They have not lost 2 games in a row during the playoffs.Either team wins I will be happy for them-the story of the Golden Knights is incredible but i would also love to see Ovie win his cup-he is such a pure scoring machine from day one of his career and this may be his only chance.he is getting up there for a hockey player already
Re: Trash Talking Stanley Cup 2018 thread - 06/03/1803:32 PM
I would like to see Ovechkin win a cup also.He is getting up in age for a forward in the NHL.He has toned down his bang-em-up style of his younger days, but is still a great player.

Capitals win as they should with their excellent play. They made clearing the puck from the Knight's zone a nightmare and that gave them many extra and very good chances. Great seasons for both teams. Ovie gets the cup but to me Oshe and Holtby were big difference makers.
