TSC ruined my life - 05/21/18 11:15 AM

Tractor Supply Co. has quickly become my favorite store. Bought diesel exhaust fluid there yesterday, clearance price because they're changing packaging from plastic jugs to buckets...5 gallons for 13 bucks. Off brand, but who cares? Peak BlueDEF is 15 bucks for 2.5 gallons (about going rate), the official AdBlue is about 6 bucks a quart when you find it.

Ten gallons of DEF, 55 pounds of dog food, and one big old bag of cat litter later, 58 bucks. Love this store.

if you buy your DEF in 500 gal containers the price is around $2 a gal

I use a lot of their hydraulic fluid, oil, and can get purina mineral relatively good priced. I also fed all their protein tubs this winter to my cattle.

I've had more than one person tell me to only buy as much DEF as you need and don't store it because it will crystalize and go bad. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not. They also said to stay away from the pumps for the same reason. It's my first diesel so I figured I would heed the warning.

It's not a commercial vehicle... probably won't use 500 gallons for as long as I own it.

this is what smart people do. Can't figure why any one would pay so much for a truck just to put another over priced item in It to make it work right. Makes no sense to me.

Re: TSC ruined my life - 05/21/18 09:07 PM

10 lb rolls of 9 gauge wire at TSC seems to be the same stuff sold through trap suppliers, just needs to be annealed. If ya ever get in a bind, you can easily anneal a roll and be back in business.

TSC sells the best pair of linemen pliers I’ve ever used. They’re all I use anymore.

Their T-posts are cheap , but seem to be of much lower quality compared to good T-posts. Good for hog traps, but I’d bite the Bullet and buy good ones for fence building. Just my opinion

My tsc had some cheapo 50 cal ammo cans on clearance for $4 each. With a rubber seal. They werent full milspec stuff but more than enough for indoor airtight storage of whatever. I got a buggy full of them. Ive only got 4 or 5 empty ones now so i need to keep another eye out for another clearance. Their aspen shavings are cheap for bedding material. Other than that i go to the coop for my vet med needs and feed. Lots cheaper for the same stuff. The wife does like digging through tsc decorations though so i have to watch out when i do go there.

They usually don't have the tractor parts I need. I go to Family Farm & Home now.

I was buying the TSC DEF. Jugs were heavily crystalized around the outside and the truck through a code for low quality DEF fluid.
There is a DEF delete in my future.

Re: TSC ruined my life - 05/22/18 01:28 PM

DEF- just go the the local truck stop & buy it on the big truck fuel lanes. $2.79 a gallon. All big trucks & my Ford 6.7 have been running it since 2010. 104k on the pickup & getting close to 3 million running it in big trucks without a problem. Don't make this any harder than it is, def is 67.5 %water & 32.5% urea. Urea is basically ammonia.

I like the store for some things but I don’t know how anybody could afford to grow anything on their feed. Even their straight shell corn is twice the going price for corn

I needed a carb rebuild kit for a 41 9N Ford tractor. TSC had a choice of the master kit, and just the gasket set. I was shocked!

Rural King has bar & chain lube for $6 per gal. TSC has their bar & chain lube for $8.

Anyone a member of their good neighbor club? I was wondering what the rewards are like. I've already spent close to a grand with them for this period and have qualified for a reward. I swear, if it's just a dang coupon I'm not going to be very happy. mad

Let us know what you find out. I hope it’s not like a Walgreens rewards deal where you need 73 million points to redeem $5 in rewards. It’s actually not as bad as I made it sound, but it’s not very rewarding imo
