Boot camp issued under shorts? - 07/11/18 03:08 PM
What type of under shorts do our services give to new recruits? In 1967 I was given cotton boxers. Still prefer them today. Hard to find them with snaps.

With your name stamped 1 inch down and centered to the front. Once after a foot locker dump we were standing on line in our undies my rackmate let a hot greezy fart rip. I look over, sure enough, wearing my skivvies.

In '70 USN was selling us white cotton boxers. They never "issued" anything, every item was deducted from our pay. (Dang Peacoat was almost a months pay and I wore it three times in four years.)(6-8 months or pay deductions, iirc)
Them drawers came down almost to the knee and wadded up in the back door, actually they wadded up about every where with tight crackerjack trousers we had. Pleats and twists around the thigh and before the day was over they rode up to where everything was hanging out, or choked off. Hateful garment.
Ruins my day just to think about all that.

Tan briefs or olive boxers.
Our Drill Sergeant was a ranger, he said if you were going to be a ranger to grab the brown briefs because in Ranger training you would be in the field like 20 something straight days. He said the brown briefs would blend in with the other brown stuff in your underwear.

I got white boxers. we weren't charged for anything in basic except haircuts and cigarettes. got a clothing allowance after basic. no more free fatigues etc. got new boots free every 6 months. got issued some cold weather gear after basic I had to return when discharged or pay for.

Raw wool. Of course if the fur market continues it's trajectory, could easily be coon!

That's what we got in 1995 as well. Never heard of anyone getting boxers.

It's a kinder, gentler military these days. They wanted us all to be angry.

Maybe it was back in the dark ages. but:
What we were issued and what we wore weren't necessarily the same.
My foot locker was inspected regularly. My actual body... not so much. Possible exception might coming back from a weekend pass. There is always the homo NCO that might demand a "short arms inspection".
