Tariffs on raw fur

Tariffs on raw fur - 07/11/18 11:30 PM

Does anyone know if Chinese tariffs will be placed on US fur, sold through NAFA or Fur Harvestors in Canada? I haven’t read all the categories the tariffs apply to yet.

china puts taxes on u.s. fur being imported. it was not really enforced though until a few years ago. I think b.o. had something to do with that through back channels. he hates rural people and doesn't try to hide it

With oil being over $70.00 a barrel, Russia should be getting back into the market.

Teepee2, China jailed its dealers for not paying the import tax on raw materials. It could have been cotton or leather or anything else. It’s a Chinese thing to try to skirt taxes no matter what the reasoning behind the taxes. They got caught and sent to prison. NAFA ended up with all sorts of unpaid for fur, and the fur market has been overwhelmed with pelts ever since.

What effect do the sanctions on Russia have? Seems there is a great push by some to isolate Russia and we need them in the market as bad as China.

Taxes? tariffs? on imports is there any difference?

Taxes are a (local) govt issue. I’m betting the Chinese tax on raw material imports was less than 10%. This keeps money flowing in and encourages locally produced material use without breaking the bank. Tariffs are a political issue and run 20+ %. They come and go. If the world use of tariffs doesn’t get straightened out soon, the US is going to be awash in cheap whiskey and soybean products, to name a few.

The entire time I was growing up we had tariffs on darn near everything. There were all sorts of tariffs called luxury tax … from furs, jewelry, cars and about everything else that wasn't a necessity to live. About the only thing I can still think of that wasn't removed is gasoline tax and the government just wastes that.

You'd be wrong with that "guess"

In the day and age of the Google one doesnt have to "guess". The tax is 20 percent on raw fur so by your definition it's a tariff.

The tax is not 20% on ranch mink raw fur the last time I googled it.

I think ranch mink got a cut to 15 percent.

China must be feeling the pressure, they want to sit down with Trump about this.

Mexico is doimg the same right now. Seems his approach is working as several countries have lowered their tariffs on us.

"2018 MFN Interim Import Duty 10%.

We got a 11% VAT tax on our exports too.

That must be the 30% tax the chinese/us were dodging.

"Value Added Tax (VAT) is applied to the sum total of the Customs value, the Customs duty, and any excise tax. Russian Customs VAT is levied at the same rates as Russian sales VAT – generally 18% for most goods, works, and services. "

So, say a Chinese buyer buys a $10 coon from NAFA. We add 10% more for NAFA in buyer side commission. 2 bucks or so for shipping and handling fees. Then the Chinese government gets another 30% of that total. The Chinese make some hats and send them to Russia where Putin takes another 18% plus tariff of the new value. It's no wonder the consumer won't buy one. Can't afford it after the government shakedowns.

" 10, but not less30 euro for 1 pieces." Duty on apparrel made out of raccoon.
