I'm thinking 99 but don't know that for sure.
I have a 98 with a 5.0 that just doesn't quite have it to pull a camper. It will, just have to leave early.

They had a 5.7 but I hadn't heard of the 5.3 yet.

Pretty sure it was 99', I had an 01'with the 5.3 and it was a great truck, sold it when it had 300k and the guy is still running it. Now I have 2 trucks with the 6.0 and they are great too, with a little more power

I would go with '99. I had a '98 with the 5.7. great truck and better mileage than the '03 5.3 ltr I am driving now. Still, great engine with 250K and still kicking and burns no oil.

I had a 99 with a 5.3 and I know it was the first year for them. now I have a new body style 07 with a 5.3 first year for economy cutout on that engine and its a piece of junk. I got it fixed but what a hassle.
