Tuktoyaktuk NWT

Tuktoyaktuk NWT - 07/20/18 09:33 PM

Anybody planning to drive the newest Canadian highway to the Arctic Ocean? I’m up here working right now doing a herring study in the towns harbour. Lots of tourists in every day. Town is welcoming everybody. Usually see whales steady but none so far. Crazy part is that the delta is full of belugas right now, not extremely rare but not common either. Road is nice too, some nice scenery and plenty of opportunity to see some barren ground grizzly, moose and caribou with the possibility of wolf and wolverine too.

Maybe you’ll talk to a local guide and plan a big game hunt for the winter.

Haven't had a good good trip in too long, Ryan. Getting closer to retirement by the day. You've got me thinking!

Thanks!

Interesting you mention belugas.

Out of all the whale clan, I have smiled at the beluga in its personality . Perhaps because it is the only whale with such a flexible neck that can show much more expression in its gaze and responses . I saw video once of a beluga being so fun with a boy at an underground aquarium , posturing and faking lunges at each other and laughing. Just as two boys would in bluffing each other in perceived "toughness". It was really precious in its connection .

Wolves and bears would be interesting too, but to see a wolverine- astounding . Just to explore the land would be fun.

Sorry but I have no way to post pictures right now. Google Tuktoyaktuk and should be plenty of info and pictures. It has always been a tourist destination by air or water but now there is the option to drive.

Funny! North of 60 was filmed in southern Alberta. Bragg creek Alberta!
