Cops pulled me over a beat the crap out...... - 08/05/18 11:43 AM
Of me last night
I was taking my sons girlfriend home after church and grocery shopping, my wife, son and her got to witness the police brutality
Supposedly my license plate was unreadable, so I was pulled over , when I told him I was carrying a weapon and that he should be out looking for real criminals and not hassling people for doing nothing
He drew his gun began screaming at me to get out of the car, then my wife, son and his girfriend all started yelling and freaking out. He screamed louder, just as I stepped out of the vehicle another cop came from behind me and knocked me to the ground. Then the beating began. My wife and son continued to yell at the cops to stop hurting me But the cops told them to shut up and stay in the vehicle or the same would had open to them
As more cops arrived and the took turns "accidentally" kicking me when walked up to make sure that the other officers had me under control. Then the Drew weapons on my family in the car and had them all get out ........
Wait, that's not how it happen, I told the officer I had a CPL and that to get to my ID I had to reach to my back pocket sfich was right nèxt to my weapon
He said ok, and as I reached for it, I didn't get shot or verbally assaulted, but removed my DL & CPL and handed them to him, my wife had already got the registration and proof of insurance out of the glovebox. So when he asked for them next I handed those to him
He returned to his car and while I waited I Realized my CPL had expired last week on my birthday I got my newly issued CPL out if my wallet and held it out the window. When he returned I said " you probably want this one". He said " I was going to ask you about that". He glanced at it, handed it back to me and said " you need to contact the Secretary of State (michigans DMV) and get a new plate as yours is damaged. I said " thank you, and be safe". He gave my my I papers back and I drove away
Whole thing took less than 5 minutes, as I drive away I tell my soon to be 18 year old son," that's how you don't get shot, beat or harrassed by the police when they pull you over". Just be polite and cooperative and your on your way
I actually got pulled over last time give years and two weeks ago ( I remember the date because if was a week before my CPL expired last time). I was going 15 over and treated the officer the same way and did not get a ticket and it was only about 5 minutes too
Just don't be a jerk and it's hardly an inconvenience when it happens

What does seeing a miracle have to do with treating police with respect and getting the same treatment in return
Maybe you think it's a miracle I didn't get the crap beat out of me, or that I didn't get a ticket 5 years ago?

Yep. I was happy for my son to be able to see that getting pulled over by the police does not have to be a big deal.
And for him to see how to handle yourself when you are pulled over, better than to say " this is what you should do" vs. seeing it for himself

Not amused.
I have been beaten by cops and seen the blue wall of silence in action.
All stemming from my witnessing a case of police brutality and agreeing testify.

Funny, the last time I got stopped it took for ever!! I had not been stopped in many years and every year I just put the paper work in the glove box and never remove the old paper work. Had to go through several year of paper work. I did put the old ones aside and got rid of them. Did not get a ticket. I was stopped at night so I turned on the dome light right away, that may have helped.

Even here we have a few that play the fool but most are like your experience simple and done, had a bad experience myself with a idiot AFTER I informed him I was a LEO he got all stupid over my trapping pistol. He was so scrambled I had to go through the disarming process myself as he was not giving directions to resolve his problem. I filed a complaint and caught up with his Commander and told him the guy did not belong to be working the road.

No, but the many ain't telling all they know. Just my experience.
Looking the other way or not volunteering information is just as bad in my book.

I'm not saying lookin the other way is what you should do at all
I was in my first original post just showing that it could go two ways and a lot depends on how we respond to being pulled over
Danny what's your issue with the "flying" guy. He didn't flap his arms or even "try" to fly. And he wasn't a cop he was a roofer

That wasn't the impression that I got from your original post at all. Thankfully it went the way it did and your boy was able to see first hand, how it's supposed to go.

Really... what is the law up there? Do you have to tell the cops you have a weapon?
Here in Arizona you don't have to say anything unless they ask.
It makes more sense to have the officer ask you rather than yelling out the window "hey I have a gun". I am pretty sure that would put any rookie on high alert... the last thing you want is to have Barney go onto fight or flight mode. I've had one go into fight or flight mode on me as I was asking him a simple question. I had my nine year old daughter with me at Quick trip. I forgot to say I open carry, anyway as soon as his face turned beat red, I said never mind and walked away from him. I wish I had gotten his name, he needs more training before he hurts someone.

I’m one of the guys that doesn’t get upset when pulled over. If I’ve been pulled over it was my own fault, lol. Only one time in my life was I stopped and seriously “detained” I followed all their commands and was still a tad rough handled. Even in my late teens/early 20’s I had enough common sense to listen. As they were about to cuff me, with my face in the pavement and a knee in my back while the other Trooper covered me with his sidearm, a call came in they had caught the bank robber, lol. They asked are you sure? And said then who do we have? Apparently my truck matched a perfect description of someone who had robbed a bank and shot someone. I was young and on my way back to base from leave. They offered to have their commander come out and I could file a formal complaint. I made a deal since time was precious to me, just give me an escort to the State line and we’d say no harm no foul! The one trooper smiled and said try and keep up! One in front and one behind me. Ended up making it back to base with plenty of time to spare, lol.

Lucky you.
I got rear ended while stopped at a light in a small town in Minnesota last week. The lady was a local and had significant damage to her front end, although still driveable. My truck had a bent bumper and slightly pushed in quarter panel.
We pulled off to the side and started exchanging info. Along comes some slick sleeved county deputy. He says it is a state highway so must be handled the the State Patrol. I suggested we finish exchanging info, he could do a report if he wanted, and we could go on our way. You'd think I had called his mother a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). He went on a rampage about me arguing with him. Next thing his sergeant shows up. They do absolutely nothing. No small talk no checking licenses. They just stood there looking important while waiting for the State Patrol to show up. After a half hour delay they tell the bear what happened, and take off.
Papa bear takes our info, writes a quick report, gives the two of us a sheet containing both of our info and a blank report to file. So danged near an hour for something that could have been handled two levels down in a couple minutes.
So, luck of the draw. Some are efficient, some are just there for harassment.

On a related note, don't call the police to conduct a welfare check if your loved one is hard of hearing and armed:

Yes most of the time that is the outcome but tell that to the family of the man on his knees begging for his life in the hotel when they opened fire with their AR and killed a man crying and begging. It takes common sense on both sides and way to many folks are losing their lives when it isn’t justified to kill them. I stand for law enforcement but not cowards behind a badge.

The law up here says. When a officer approaches you, you tell him "I have a CPL, and I am carrying". If you just give the officer your liscence and registration and he goes to his car and runs you, and the computer says you have a CPL And you ARE CARRYING. you will be charged and risk loosing your CPL. I think it's a fine the first time and a fine and loss of CPL second time.
So yes. You tell them your carrying. But not "I have a gun". It's "officer I have a CPL, and I am carrying" He will ask where the gun is and if you can get your papers without reach toward the gun
In my case the answer was "no, the gun is on my side and my wallet is right by it". He just took a diffe t position to stand in, up his light on my hand and said "go ahead and get your wallet"
Simple and done

That's a strange law to have to inform the officer you have a license and are carrying.
I'm not suggesting a person lie, but to be required to inform the officer even if they don't ask...surprising.

That's a strange law to have to inform the officer you have a license and are carrying.
I don't even remember the requirement here, in MN. But, since I am always carrying, I simply automatically hand the officer the three documents that are always together in my wallet:
- Driver's license
- insurance card
- CCW
I don't say a word, other than pleasant greeting. Usually, I'm asked if I'm carrying and where. Since I've already produced the required documentation, there's no longer a need to reach for anything. From that point on it's hands in sight on the steering wheel or if requested on the dash.
In this last incident I mentioned, the full grown bear just handed it back and went about his business. The county mountys didn't ask for anything so I showed them nothing.

Respect when mutual is key
Boot licking to negate fear , or to prevent assault up to and including death should be unacceptable
And yet so many are fine with it .

There is a list of states that you need to inform a officer and the ones you do not only if ask.For a out of state person in another state and have your CCW you need to know the state laws that you are in.
As for being pull over. I all the years I drive and pull over.I did meet some that need to show they are a officer.Mainly the rest was not giver you hard time Some had help me also.So I know times have change so know your laws and go from there wit the state you are in if it is not your home state and even then you need to know the CCW laws of the state not on a forum.

A few years ago I was removed from the truck at gun point after "failing to yield" quickly enough for being on the cell phone.
Hot headed young cop yelling and cussing at me for not pulling over soon enough. Could have easily been killed by that work of art. Took my Benneli and custom coyote rifle. Got to spend 3 months getting those back. First and ever time been hauled to jail. Three hours in there. That was the final straw for me. Too many times been let down by them. My step dad was the chief of police in my home town growing up. Been around cops my whole life. Every family vacation growing up was all cops. Always have voted for whatever initiative/legislative action for more money or whatever for them but not anymore.
Avoid them at all costs. The have let me down and penalized me just to finance their pensions. Highway Patrol is the worst at it.
When you have friends that are in law enforcement you get to hear about all the games they play.
Done with them. Too bad really because there are plenty of good ones.

Definitely some good guys out there who chose law enforcement as a career . Most do a good job and have the ability to reason
Unfortunately there are many more jack wad tough guys out there with zero ability to handle anything corectly

Re: Cops pulled me over a beat the crap out...... - 08/06/18 10:46 PM
I haven’t been pulled over in years. Last fall I worked my part time job, went to partner’s house to scrape hides for a couple hours, changed back into my better work clothes and drove home. It was sleeting and raining. I couldn’t see the dotted center line very well so I was hugging the right edge white line. Guess I was weaving a little. The cop was nice. He asked for license, registration, and proof of insurance. I also gave him my carry permit and said the pistol was loaded but in the case. He asked if I’d been drinking, which I said “no”. I told him I was tired and couldn’t see the center line markings so I was holding to the right edge line. I’ve had no priors. I KNOW he didn’t do a computer check because I had a carry card. When I gave it to him he simply gave it back.
During my concealed carry class the instructor said a traffic stop when you offer a concealed carry card would take 45-minutes because the officer would do a national search to see if you’d done anything illegal after getting the card. This officer had bigger problems than me so he didn’t check. Wearing clean clothes and no scruffy facial hair may have played a part, too.

Complying with instructions is not boot licking...
