Gander Outdoors owned store closing - 08/08/18 08:14 PM

Gander Outdoors who owns Overtons in Greenville, NC has announced that the store will be closing. Overtons was a popular regional store for water sport enthusiasts and fishing and hunting goods that was bought out by Gander.

According to locals in Greenville, the anti gun statements by Gander's owner and the removal of guns and ammo and other non water sporting goods inventory resulted in a huge loss of business for the store. Gander is planning to keep the Overton name by incorporating an Overton line of water sport gear in some of their Gander Outdoor Stores. They have already closed the only other Overtons that was in Raleigh, NC. Gander also has a regional distribution center in Greenville that will continue to operate.

Business owners are not the only folks who can make statements with their money!

Screw with your customer base and that seems like a logical outcome just a guy with little vision that picked a fight he never had to fight for nothing. Can his but get a pro-gun leader and things might get better for them.

Yes, Camping World is the parent company of Gander Outdoors.

And the same guy who made the anti gun statement and told us he did not want our money was the same fellow who said that the management of Gander Mountain made stupid decisions that let to their bankruptcy.

Pot, meet kettle!

Just goes to show that we can make a difference if enough of us stick to our guns!

I know what you all are saying. A business owner should NEVER reveal his politics. That being said, The Gander Outdoors in Kenosha, Wi. sells guns, ammo and has gunsmithing services. They dropped their trapping supplies. I have not been there but i do get their flyers.

Michael Jordan was once asked why he didn’t take a stance on an issue.
“Don’t mix business with politics “.

wah!,wah!,wah!

Time will tell. I ain't been in one since the buyout, but, I drive by several every day and do see cars in their lots.

I rather doubt they cater to my needs, but, that doesn't mean I have to bad-mouth them either.

What anti-gun statement did the executive make? I thought he made some comment about Trump in reference to the travel ban. Did he say something else about gun rights?

I visited the one locally just to see what they had. Looked like they had a lot less inventory than the old Gander Mtn. They did have some trapping supplies. I think they had about two 1.5 coil springs, one 110 body grip, one dog-proof coon trap, and several packages of cable restraints. They did have primers and a few kinds of powder, but not much selection. No bullets and only a few sizes of brass. Not much to see there, really - especially since there's a Cabelas only five miles farther away in a different direction.

His other classic line when asked to take a more vocal stance on a democrat issue, "Republicans buy sneakers too."

Told Trump supporters to shop elsewhere!

UNITED STATES — Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis has apologized for comments he madeon CNBC’s “Power Lunch” on Aug. 16, reported CNBC today.
“The mistake I made in the last week was not being clear,” Lemonis wrote in a letter. “As the CEO of a business, I am responsible to take care of the people that work there.”
In the aftermath of a violent rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Lemonis said, “There’s no doubt that there is probably not many consumers in this country today that are in favor of what has been said in the last couple days, and if they are, quite frankly, don’t shop at my business.”
The entrepreneur and host of CNBC’s “The Profit” wrote that he apologizes “to anyone who has supported their cause, their political preference, their candidate, their beliefs. I am asking for your forgiveness. I should have not disrespected that and will not again,” Lemonis wrote.

That quote is from 2017. And the next day “For the record what I said is that if you are okay with what happened in Charlottesville what was said and what was done I’m not okay with it,” Lemonis states.

and for reference:

The Unite the Right rally, also known as the Charlottesville rally or Charlottesville riots, was a white supremacist and white nationalist rally that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia, from August 11 to 12, 2017. Protesters were members of the far-right and included members of the alt-right, neo-Confederates, Klansmen, neo-Nazis, and various militias. Some of the marchers chanted racist and antisemitic slogans, carried semi-automatic rifles, swastikas, Nazi symbols (such as the Odal rune, Black Sun, Iron Cross, and the Valknut), Confederate battle flags, Deus Vult crosses, flags and other symbols of various past and present anti-Muslim and antisemitic groups. The organizers’ stated goals included unifying the American white nationalist movement

So the dude makes a savvy business decision, buys the name, lets someone else deal with the crap inventory, renegotiates leases at key locations, re-hires most of the people that lost their job when the previous went down at those same spots, re-opens the doors with dang good pricing & offerings and now we're boycotting. Certainly your prerogative. I for one think the new pricing is pretty sweet and the offerings acceptable. They carry my 16ga shells in stock for cheaper than elsewhere among other things. The man dislikes white supremacists, don't we all. Well played Mr. CEO, well played.

The great thing about being a trapper is that you never have to worry about this political nonsense when buying supplies for the upcoming season.

Jim's an employee. Your credit card wasn't run for Jim's benefit.

Justify away... Lots of places to buy shotguns at.

They will never run my credit card.

The Nazis, White Power idiots were assigned to the Right by the Left for the affect they could get out of it and it has nothing to do with the Right supporting them short stick losers and freaks! Just trying to counter them masked faced morons they do claim that do need a good attitude adjustment.

Re: Gander Outdoors owned store closing - 08/10/18 08:29 PM

Well maybe there are many places to buy a shotgun in the south metro and you can pay more but I looked at a lot of prices of Mossberg super bantem mini 510's and this was the best deal. Seems to me gander owners made a statement with words but their actions and prices tell me they want to sell guns to law abiding citizens. God bless the USA.

Re: Gander Outdoors owned store closing - 08/10/18 08:53 PM

Had nothing to do with the 2nd it had to do with vilifying a group of people that voted the way they wanted to and this Jackwagon running his mouth when he should of kept it closed he made the call we just honored it!

NEW YORK — The new owner of Minnesota-based Gander Mountain had some strong words for supporters of President Donald Trump after the riots in Charlottesville, Virginia last week.

Marcus Lemonis: If you’re OK with what Trump said, don’t shop at my businesses from CNBC.

Re: Gander Outdoors owned store closing - 08/10/18 09:46 PM

I am ok saving money and not making everything political. Money saved means more time shooting and that means more time with my son teaching him how to be a better person and not just claiming the moral high ground in an online forum. I try to make every penny count and if you want to sell me a gun made by US citizens sold by US citizens for less money than your competitors I will take that deal all day. Even if you say some ignorant stuff or heaven forbid vote for different canidate than me. You guys who don't want to shop at gander don't.

As much as I would like to remain ideologically pure, I just can't pass up the Remington gun clubs that they've been selling for under $5 a box.
