The new Ford Ranger - 08/14/18 07:54 PM

http://www.foxnews.com/auto/2018/08/14/2019-ford-ranger-priced-at-25395-order-books-opened.html

Not even a little impressed. I'm not a huge Ford fan, but my pap drove a ranger, so I have good memories tied to them. The price just seems awfully high. I walked out the door with a new ram 1500 crew cab with a hemi 5.7. And 4x4 for not alot more than this. I think it's overpriced.

looks like a GM body style. My New 2017 XLT F150 was not much more then that either... Think I will keep the 2004 Ranger I have as my trapping rig. After all it is just getting broke in at 267,000K and it LOOKS like a Ford!

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/14/18 08:10 PM

It's essentially the same vehicle they continued to make overseas while not offering it here. Bummer, was hoping for more. Have to see what the Z plan pricing comes out to be.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/14/18 08:13 PM

base price is more than I paid for 4wd in 98. truck has been rough used. still not using oil. I doubt seriously the new style can hold a candle to one of these. old truck still not using oil between changes. need to replace the egr valve though

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 01:45 AM

I guess I just don't like the size of it? I expected a smaller truck like the original rangers. I dont get making a what's supposed to be a midsize truck into an almost full-size, for just a few to grand less. I feel like you get the worst of everything that way.

Looks OK to me. Some better tires would go a long ways.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 01:58 AM

Yep, a lift kit for the deep snow and some bigger tires.
Nice looking little truck.

I don't like it, looks to Toyota'ish to me and it's not Ranger size.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 02:15 AM

Looks the same size as my old ranger.

Big enough to haul the 4 trax.

That's because they're trying to improve the looks of it.

Well they failed lol. A Ford should look like a Ford.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 02:31 AM

The new one looks to have more room in the interior and less room under the hood.I wont buy a 4 door truck.Supercab gives a place to lock stuff up and more room in the box where needed for a trapper.

Had a 4x4 Ranger in 85. King cab model. Perfect size and would go anywhere. I like the new look as well.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 11:35 AM

loved my 20032ranger i bought it used...supercab and the 4 wheel drive system was the best of any of the 6 different 4x4"s ive ever owned. The only truck that I could stop halfway up my steep hillside and take right off from mid slope empty and never spin a tire....My toyotas couldnt ever do that,or my nissans. Wish it got better mileage though. Only truck I ever made money on too!

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 11:50 AM

Only trouble I ever have with mine is driving in 4 hi. Hit a bad spot unexpectedly and need to power out of it the power aint there. Have even killed the motor. Mine has the 3.0 When I bought it the sales man told me the 4.0 was 10 more HP and it cost 800 more. Don't know if it would matter. If your in 4 low they are geared low enough you drop into deep mud or snow you didn't anticipate, mashing the gas pedal gets you results. The short wheelbase, good ground clearance, extremely short turn radius, means you can drive into, and out of, places you probably shouldn't have.

I hope the new rangers are as reliable, longlasting, tough, and go anywhere trucks the originals were.

If they are I may go buy one. Think I'll drive my 98 over to have a look smile

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 12:18 PM

Nothing mentioned about gas milage. The only reason I can think of to drive a small truck would be significantly better gas milage. The last ranger I had got the same milage as my F150's.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 12:22 PM

short wheelbase will get into places a long wheel base wont walleye. not that big a deal in farm country but in the west its significant

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 12:25 PM

The new ford engines and trannys are great on gas,my new f-150 does between 9.2 and 9.8 ltrs\100k as long as I don't drive like a maniac.
I see the new ranger has the new turbo engine and 10 speed tranny-it should have excellent gas milage.

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 04:14 PM

Wonder where it's made. My last truck was made in Mexico. With the problems I've had, I'll always check the assembly location before buying another one.

I used to work at the Ford plant where Rangers were made. Ford always threatened to move that (and every other) plant to Mexico...Have to wonder where they will build the "Assembly" plant.

Wayne, Michigan

Re: The new Ford Ranger - 08/15/18 06:53 PM

Wonder if they will all be built there, Wayne. Many of the big 3 auto makers have sister plants in both the US and Mexico for the same model. For example (at least in the past) half of Fords Escorts (now Focus) were built in Edison NJ....the other half were built in Mexico. This goes for many other models as well.

However, the Ranger only had one plant years ago when they were being built so maybe they will be able to keep it to one plant (here).
