It's all about them making parents know they are in control. Our public school system is spiraling downwards.

You can't indoctrinate if they won't show up to political reeducation camp.

4 times in 4 weeks is crazy. On one hand they are making the students accountable but the other hand this is excessive.
Here they go after the parents/ guardian with huge fines and possibly jail

What I find crazy is the amount of people who think the enforcement of this rule will affect them! In 4 years of high school, I doubt I was late more than a couple times, let alone 4 times in a semester. I never had an unexcused absence. If you can't afford the penalty, get your freaking kids to school.

The whole link seems directed as anti public education. As the late Andy Rooney once said, we have so many dumb kids in America because we have so many dumb parents.
We have so many unskilled, uneducated, unemployable young men and women in this country because of so many kids growing up without any real parenting. Many are being raised by the things the see on their comuters and smart phones----And we thiought TV was badwhistle

Not seeing to it that one's kids are educated(public, private, home schooled, whatever....)should be viewed as child neglect.

I really do have to chuckle when i read these things.

Guys complain all the time about kids now-a-days not having respect/drive and on the next thread, complain when the "village" tries to do something about it because their parents won't.

Pick a side and stay with it.

Are they going to provide a tutor at the jail?

Amen. What with all the security needed at school to keep the hand wringers happy the kid probably won't notice the difference in atmosphere when he goes to the county jail. What better way to ingrain a sense of subservience to the state at a young age?

Why should they. If they went to jail for missing they weren't getting any tudoring when they missed school.

For sure some parents are lacking in our society. But are school system is just as much to blame for kids lack of respect and drive.

Quit the indoctrinating and the I have to have control syndrome and then maybe I would trust the village to teach my kids.

Instead of wasting time making new laws they should overhaul the education system starting with the political agendas that are pushed on kids today. But wait teachers want it both ways as well.

This subject really really gets on my nerves, my kid (when old enough) is going to miss as much school as I
Want him to. I personally think there should be no Mandates for how much they attend if it's not effecting there
Grades. If I want my kid to miss school because of a important trapping day or because we are going to make firewood
He is going to stay home.

Re: 15 Days in JAIL for missing class in High School - 08/27/18 01:10 AM

Old saying, "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" applies to all the so called education that some of you support. No matter how you force attendance nor how many hours a day nor how many days a year that you force these people to attend; no matter how much that enforcement costs, no matter how big the building is and no matter what subjects are taught: you will not and cannot force them to learn. Mandated education can never exist.

Force the kids to be away from the parents the majority of their childhood and then blame the parents? That is just as idiotic as believing you can enforce education. You want a reason that America is the way it is? Compulsory education is a prime candidate. Socialism just leads to more socialism, this country was built by "rugged individualists", a kind of person that would be in jail today and a term that is no longer in use.

As far as I know, everyone is free to home school their kids in this country. No?

And as far as I know the public school system should be equal to everyone.

And not used for political agendas.

Re: 15 Days in JAIL for missing class in High School - 08/27/18 02:09 PM

in highschool we had problems with kids failing they skipped class , they paid no attention they usually got in trouble for something else.

suspensions were issued and they just seemed to keep having more and more suspensions , UNTIL they implemented in school suspension.

they hired a prison guard from the local MED/MAX to come in an guard those serving in school suspensions they took a room just off the school office and put a few desks in it and it worked the only think they could do was school work , when that was all done nothing just sit.

guys that were failing were suddenly finding lots of time to do their school work serving in school suspension. they started having fewer and fewer in school suspension

Re: 15 Days in JAIL for missing class in High School - 08/27/18 02:12 PM

LOL fines for skipping school? I would have been broke. We used to wait in the hall till the teacher put the attendance sheet on the back of the door to be picked up, then just mark ourselves present. Being late depended on the teacher. Most times you only got in trouble if your excuse wasnt funny or clever enough. Pretty sure I got detention once...

These kids missing and skipping are making their own choices, and their punishment will come later in life. We did it because we were bored, we werent out at the corner smoking dope.

I did not come from a school with any political agenda. Well, to be fair, I would say the public school I attended leaned to the right. I can see it is a, totally, different environment here in MN versus rural Nebraska. We need a bunch of like-minded conservatives to become teachers in this country to get the kind of change most of us would like to see.

Good Lord, if we'd had that when I was in school, I'd still be in jail. I'd always give myself what I thought was enough time, but hey, you never know what's going to happen on a trapline. And if you're too late, you might as well just set some more traps. LOL

My DIL is a pediatrician. Lazy parents have brought their tardy kids to her pretending to be sick, in order to get a note from a doctor. She refuses.

When they say it's not about the money...It's about the money !

$250.00 fine or 15 days in jail ? I wonder if these officials enforcing this law are invested in the jail they will be going to ?

Land of the free my arse.

Not unlike a "Point" system where you work. Not only do you lose pay, but so many points gets you a disciplinary action, and enough gets you fired.

Re: 15 Days in JAIL for missing class in High School - 08/28/18 11:23 PM

Yah I think I definitely would of spent more time in jail than school lol, drove myself since the first couple weeks I was in high school till graduation, school had my phone number for contact info so whenever I missed they would just call my phone lol. Wasn’t very challenging at all, just had to make sure you were in your athletic class everyday. Always had to make up like 150 hours at the end of school. Your supposed to come in early or stay later and make up hours helping teachers or whatever. Just get a girl to go take your hours sheet to one of the coaches or somethin and sign em all off at the end of the year. Good to go

I’m not condoning this by any means FYI for the younger crowd, stay in school and drugs are bad!
