If you have never been to this rendezvous come on down is a beautiful time in the mountains for Virginia. Just ask anyone that has been it a free event with no table fees no gate fees and great food and good mountain music and a lot of new friends to be made.

Looks like a good convention. I see my buddies Kevin Wimmer and John Houben on the demo list.

Hey, Bandy. How is the traffic situation on I-77 between Blue Field and Bland. Earlier in the summer we had a long go of it getting through the tunnel. Coming from West Virginia would I be better off taking an alternate route? . . . Thanks, Houben.

Well, yes I think she is, but right now she owes Mr. Dobbins money, so she might be trying to avoid him.

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/08/18 05:30 PM

She likes ice cream too!

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/08/18 05:36 PM

Yes but you brought her chocolate, and she wanted strawberry.

She went ahead and ate it anyway.

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/08/18 06:30 PM

Just a heads up. I don't know how the Bland meet is scheduled but it looks like the third week in October. I have heard that the 2019 SENTA will be Oct. 18-19 which is also the third week in October. I hope you can avoid a scheduling conflict.

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/08/18 06:33 PM

They are on the same weekend. Those are the only dates both can have theirs because of the venues being booked solid before and after. I will be at the Bland convention in 2019.

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/08/18 07:21 PM

The 2017 NTA SE was the same weekend as Bland also. I went to Bland in '17 and will do the same in '19.

I personally would like to see the NTA SE held in the spring to eliminate the conflicts with established state and local rondys. Bland and Crossville are only 4 hours apart so they are competing for some of the same vendors and attendees.

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/10/18 11:42 PM

I drove through the Princeton area on I77 last Saturday. The north bound lanes are open. One lane of the south bound side was closed from mile marker 9 to the tunnel at mile marker 1. Slow going but it was moving.
Posted By: John Houben

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/11/18 12:32 AM

Thanks Norm. For coming over (to the south would I gain any advantage by going 460 to 100 to 42 into Bland?
Posted By: Norm Mullins

Re: Bland rendezvous VTA D1 - 10/11/18 12:50 AM

That would add a lot of miles John...probably better to suffer the slow traffic on I77.

There is another alternate route that would add only about 15 miles or so, but it's a mountain road and will be somewhat slow going too: At Exit 9, take 460 west to route 598 (Bland Road). Rt 598 will bring you out on the south side of East River Mt tunnel back onto I77 at mile marker 68.

Got a second hand report today concerning traffic on I77 South: Still one lane closed from Exit 9 to Exit 1 at the tunnel. Traffic was slow but moving along. Sounded like you would be just as well to stay on I77 coming to Bland...

Come on down Bill. It's been too long...

First time coming to Bland. Been wanting to come down there for a few years. Finally got some vacation so really looking forward to it. I plan on getting there tomorrow evening. Who do I need to see Friday to drop off an apple pie for the cook out?

Which type of apple pie are you referring to I know there was some served at the battle of apple hill in Ohio that almost took out whole bunch of Va troops. It wasn't the kind you eat though?

I will get two made if you go next year JD.

Bandy, It would be just a normal apple pie. I still take a few sips of the liquid kind. But have pretty well given the liquid up after the OSTA convention at Caldwell a few years back crazy crazy.

Heading that way as soon as I get off here. Looking for a couple of days of just relaxing.
