Burrs!

Have any of you ever used a product like "kids no more tangles" to facilitate burr removal from trapped critters. I read someplace that it makes the task much easier.
Some of the coyotes I skinned last year had loads of small burrs deep in the fur. Any comments and suggestions welcome!

I have use no more tangles. It differently helps. However, if the animal is FULL of burs, it still takes a lot of time. Watch where you set the traps.

Those probably help, I pick a burrdock apart with end tooth of the fur comb, then comb spot clean, cocklebur I comb fur away from one side, then use comb to roll burr out on loosened side

I've used it for many years,on fur and also in grooming mounts like mountain goats in the shop.I'm never without it.I always buy the store brand.

Maybe it has been mention here before but there's also a product called No Tangles in the equestrian department of our farm store. Neighbors use it on their horses so tried it on some of my furs with good results.

Remove burdocks before skun'n.
Don't try to comb out the whole bunch of burdocks at one time.
Remove one burdock at a time. At times, picking at cluster (with comb) to break apart.
Anyway you do it, removing burdocks takes time, but must be done.

Out in n/w Illinois and s/w Wisconsin there is a plant that produces a "frond" of small burrs. These are about the size of a BB. These get down into lower layers of fur and pill up. There can be loads of these on a single canine and are very difficult to remove.
I have tried different styles of combs with no better results.
When I read about the "no more tangles" my only concern was what it might do to the fur. Since some of you use it, Then I aim to give it a try. I spent quite a few hours last season just trying to get those tiny burrs out.

Dawn soap will do the same thing you just need to figure out the damage your going to do if the burr count is too high I once pulled over 200 cockle burrs out of a badger and the pelt was poor for the effort.

Squacks, I know exactly the plant you're talking about. I've always called them beggars lice. I hate those dang things. Spent a half hour one day picking hundreds of them off my hunting pants.

Buy cheap hair softner and put in fur, the burrs , sticktites come out easy without pulling hair out. Makes fur smell good too.....LOL..

I agree with you. The effort may not be worth it in some cases. The "no more tangles" will get a try. What is there to lose?

Removing Burrs From Fur

When I have burrs in in Fox, Coyote and Coons, I've found that by spraying Johnson's Kids No More Tangles, or a cheaper Walmart generic equivalent, will help get the burrs out. Just spray some on the fur where the burrs are and let it set for a couple of minutes, then comb it out. Most burrs will slide right out. Tip Submitted by Paula Hamilton.
