That is a cycle bar from either a combine grain heads or a hay swather. The cycle slides in between guards in a track and goes back and forth forcing the hay or grain against the guards and cuts the grass or stalks free to go into the machine. I replaced lots of those sections on many a mow [Linked Image]
er, swather or combine back when I was farming.

Appears to be a more modern sickle bar with bolted in sections. Older sickle bars were used from the late 1800s on in mowers, binders and swathers but they were shorter than the 16 foot one pictured and the sections were riveted onto the bar.

I've rebuilt a bunch of them. Hope I'm done with them. Rotary cutters now. Never done a 16 footer.

We used to cut hay with a mule drawn mower with that is type of blade. Neighbor had a dog that would bark and chase the mower. He retired with three legs.
