Medicare vs Medicade

Medicare vs Medicade - 11/16/18 10:37 AM

As am old and retired, 70 for you pups out there. I have a question, or a statement if you wish, about differences between old people, like me who are on Medicare vs younger, for the most part, who are on Medicaid.
I am, like thousands of other people, a diabetic, type 2. I take daily injections of insulin. As the pens are more expensive I buy my insulin in vials & then inject myself with a syringe. I have to pay part of my SS income each month to get my Medicare insurance.
I was talking to a lady the other day. She had some medical issues, heart problems, & is drawing Medicaid, which costs her nothing. She is also a diabetic. Her Dr. set her up with the pens, because they are easier to use, but more expensive.
Now my kicker: I received a call from my pharmacy the other day telling me my insulin was in, but it was going to cost me over $350.00 for a months supply because I am now in the "doughnut hole" until after the 1st of the year.
The lady on Medicaid pays nothing, is prescribed the more expensive pens, and is issued more than she can use. Said she has a bunch of pens in her refrigerator. She also gets a bunch more meds than I ever care to have to get and has no doughnut hole to worry about.
Is it just me or am I right feeling like Uncle Sam is putting the shaft to a lot of older citizens?

You are correct. Add to that US military Veterans are getting the shaft while illegals are having everything given to them. All in the name of more votes for the D. And, they are paid by the govt. to over-reproduce.

My point exactly. Immigrants want to come here because of all the free stuff they are getting, medical care included. While we have people like MB750 who has lived here all his life struggling to make a go of it. It's not fair and it is the democrats who want to bring the immigrants in because they know they will vote for them because of the free stuff.

Not sure about other states, but in Iowa, you can’t have more than $2000 in assets, not including your home, to qualify for Medicaid. And when you kick the bucket, if you don’t have a living spouse, the state will take the proceeds from the sale of your home to repay Medicaid. Just went through all this with my mom, who had to go to a care center, but didn’t qualify for Medicaid because she had $3500 in a checking account. It had to be paid down on her care first. So now she is on Medicaid, but only gets to keep $50/ month from her SS. The rest goes to care center. She’s 99 btw. Strange system. Especially when I hear about capable young people on Medicaid.

When you hit that donut hole, your Rx"s about triple in price. My wife just hit it again for the second time in 3 years. Though some are even worse than that. One of her $6.00 ones was $52.00. The inhalers are the worst ones -cost wise.
Medicaid is for super low income people. If you have a car and a house and they are worth over 10 grand (per couple),you will not qualify for Medicaid.
Do a search on it--I just did.It will tell you what you need to know.

MB750, the donut hole has always been a big problem. Now that it is open enrollment for Medicare until 12/7 look into plans in your area. Some medicare advantage plans might have donut hole coverage. Medicare advantage plans in your area also may have a $0 premium. There are tons of other perks to a medicare advantage plan. I will elaborate later as I am just taking a few minutes away from what I am working on. In the meantime ask the pharmacy for an equivalent rx.

I was 1 of 3 in charge of developing Medicare Advantage plans and all of the materials for the company I worked for. Been in the industry 10 years. Although I am no longer working but can help in general ways to help you.

This is exactly part of why I hate the whole Medicare For All that politicians and liberals are pushing.

Got my flu shot yesterday. They informed me that our clinic will not be covered by the Medicare advantage plan.
Look real hard at what you are getting into.
This all reminds me of the Temptations song--BALL OF CONFUSION.

Try to explain that to the blue party and then they blame everyone BUT themselves for a huge deficit. Unreal!

Medicare is something you paid for. Medicaid is welfare.

Look at the demographics of each program and figure out which which side has more voters.

Lots of young non working people around here on Medicaid. When I hear Medicare I think of people who have actually contributed to society at one time or all their life. Having a work record is the kiss of death for Medicaid so they just start out life on the right foot never striking a lick at a snake.

AND paying for medicare doesn't insure that you can find a doctor that will treat you!
If your close to mandatory medicare age my advise would be find a doctor that will treat you when you do go on medicare.
