50+lb. bobcat - 12/11/18 02:11 AM

I was recently told of someone near here that claimed they had caught a bobcat in excess of 52lbs. I wasn't aware they got that big. Who has pictures of one that big they have caught and weighed?

Re: 50+lb. bobcat - 12/11/18 02:12 AM

We have taken some big cats but 42 or 44 pounds was our biggest.

someone on tman knew the guy that had the MN record. I'm pretty sure that was high 50s. I have seen a 42 lb, and that thing was huge.

I thought 28lbs was big

Re: 50+lb. bobcat - 12/11/18 02:41 AM

I had tracks a few years back that I'm sure belonged to a 50 lb cat.

He was not interested in anything I threw at him. Lucky for him he was south of the line so I couldn't set snares for him (it sucks living on that line)

pretty sure a member posted pictures a year ago maybe 2 of two cats he caught in Michigans UP. I want to say the weights were 62lb and 60something.

I have a well used toilet location very close to one of my favorite bear bait locations. Very big track there but not a 50lbr.

Very nice. More pale than the average cat up in my area.
I have a picture of one that has pretty gray and true blue colors or so it looks in the coat from a trail cam. It was young one and had a sibling with that sure did look like a lynx cross.

They have the big Cat contest in Texas where you have to shoot 5 Coyotes before you can enter a cat. I would like to see what the average cat has weighed in the last 10 yrs or how ever long it has been going.

The heaviest bobcat turned in at the West Texas Big Cat contest weighed 42# in 2009. In 2018 it was 38#

Of the heaviest 5 years since the contest started 10 years ago the average is 37# 3 ounces.

Re: 50+lb. bobcat - 12/20/18 09:10 AM

Not bobcat, but I've got a lynx running my property that's gotta go at least 75 pounds. Heck, I printed out a trail cam photo, and just the picture weighed 4 1/2 pounds.

Holy cat! So my biggest at 24# doubled isn’t even 50#. Heck I don’t think my coyotes even go to or over 50#, lol. That would definitely be interesting walking up to in trap especially if it’s only caught by a toe, lol.

40lb bobcat, it could be heavier, my scale maxes out at 40lb. I still have him in the freezer, he ate all my fox squirrels. Pic is from last year.

Re: 50+lb. bobcat - 12/10/22 07:57 AM

I don't know that much about bobcat weights, but my experience with cougars is that one specific cat can vary a whole lot in weight depending on when and what they have eaten. I've seen 120 pound cougar with 15 pounds of venison in their stomachs; and I'll bet they can fit a lot more. Cats can really gorge themselves.

This guy weighed 38 pounds on a very accurate scale. Was super thin and had barely any fat under it's skin. Taxidermist said for the frame size he should have been pushing 50 pounds.

Beachcomberf13 that is a pretty cat for Pa. Our biggest among my friends is a 46 pounder that was posed on here 10 years ago along side of a 30 p0und beaver and another cat of some weight that I forget. He ran dogs and is a real outdoors man. My biggest was last year of 35 pounds. Most of the local guys have got a 30 pounder since the season opened a dozen years or more ago here in Pa........jk
