Lazy man's way of mushrat huttin.

I am interested in finding the easiest way to get insde of muskrat huts to place my trap inside. Ice spudding is what I have been doing but the repetitive upper body movements knocks the cherry off my cigarette and burns my whiskers. Looking for an easier, softer way.

Tractor with a front end loader?

I use a small hatchet, wear an old pair of waders and work from my knees.

That's where I keep my Virgina Slim 120 menthol cigarettes and turnips for bait.

Quit smokin and that won't happen. Not good for you anyway! An old hand saw works well.

I use a short Axe and a spud

Try an ice auger. Gas operated of course. The auger that requires two people to hold it. Check all the fluids and make sure the gas tank is full, that way when your son and his friend are operating it you won't burn your beard while directing from the chair.

Good luck, I use a narrow ice chisel, of my own making.

This is why I don't trap through ice...
