Flat bed for sidexside

Flat bed for sidexside - 12/17/18 05:49 AM

I'm thinking about taking off the box on my Ranger and building a flat bed set up for trapping. Will have pull out drawers for lure and bait as well as for storing various tools. On top, have cut outs for 5 gallon buckets of waxed sand. Also a covered area for traps. Has anyone built anything like this? Open to any ideas.

What about leaving the box on and building a flat deck over the top of it? You could still use the flat space underneath if you have a tailgate. Sounds easier and more practical to me, but you know what you want better than I do.

I built a box on top of the box with drawers and storage in the original box. Works great for me. Can haul everything I need in the top and anything that needs to be kept dry and out of the weather underneath, just drop the tailgate and you have access to everything stored there. Front foot of the bottom box is partitioned off and floods up on the top box for storing stuff that is seldom used.

I thought of doing that. Would it be to tall? I'm only 5'9,so am worried about handling buckets of waxed sand. That is a downside, the sand is heavy. I won't do anything until summer, just trying to get some ideas.

It would probably be a bit tall, i am 6’2” and it is a little tall for me. I carry cage traps in mine a lot so I made the sides 10” tall so they wouldn’t tip out on me. Also my ranger has a slight lift and 26” tires so it is tall to begin with. You could make the sides shorter and probably be ok with it. I know it made my organization way better which helps in getting more sets out in a hurry.
