Eastern Shore Coyotes - 12/17/18 02:24 PM

Does anybody know when they are prime?

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 12/17/18 09:17 PM

Should be as good as they get right now till mid jan. That said, kill them when ever and where ever you can. You have one on camera ? Dispersal coming very soon.

Please don't tell me a deer hunter saw one. Every deer hunter here see's them every time they go in the woods and they all weigh 100lbs.

ROTFLMBO!

Goose hunters, hearing them at night, all over the place.

Of course. Consider that the people with the least experience and exposure to coyotes see them and hear them constantly.

Go over there and catch all their foxes. Last time I had the same situation I caught 24 foxes off the place in 2 wks. No coyotes. They mysteriously stopped when I showed up.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 12/18/18 12:56 AM

After 20 years of folks telling me they are all around here, starting to see and hear them here.
Havent caught any here yet, but have had a couple reds killed. Had 2 bit thru chest, I ASSUME its coyotes.

We have huge packs here. Just ask everyone that know nothing

Even had people swear they're wolves, "they seen them, almost 20 together and they're huge"

Third one I’ve killed, I have a feeling it’s just going to get worse and worse . In a few years we will be cross staking and stepping up our traps. Hopefully our fox population won’t suffer too bad

You have to be vewy qwiet...

We saw one down on Bishop's Head last winter during the snow. Dark looking, but was against the snow at 200 yards. I've shot and caught coyotes and am not mistaken about seeing this one. Wasn't anywhere near 100 pounds though, more like 30-35.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 12/18/18 03:24 PM

same strange thing here - they are "all over the place"
but i only hear a few here and there
only get them on the camera here and there
only see a track here and there.

so I can only assume they are silent, camera detecting, flying coyotes.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 12/18/18 04:00 PM

They are thick here in Frederick County on the western side. Bold (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) walk around in the middle of the day. Missed a good one with my bow just before rifle season. Trying to trap them but a newbie.

Been hearing a lot of people the last few years saying they've seen/heard them. Hoping they stay away from Caroline county!

I wonder when the high numbers some fox trappers get in Maryland and southeastern PA will start to diminish since it sounds like the yotes are starting to take over this part of the country. I hope it doesn’t happen for these red fox trappers but it may be inevitable.

I don't know, but it sure hasn't happened here. I've got coyotes on every piece here and the reds are still holding fast. I snared a red and coyote less than ten yards apart today. Coyotes will kill them given a chance but so far here anyway they're coexisting

I'd have to say I have similar experience here- seen the first yote in 2005 and have seen them sporadically ever since, never very many. Reds seems as good as ever- last year and this year lowest mange rates I have ever seen!

happened in south Jersey.
A good thing is the greys are coming back, and the reds seem to be holding not like we use to have though. flat farm ground the little red has a rough time with the yote.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 01/15/19 12:48 AM

First thing you'll see... Dead ones trapped.

Set this piece for my son just five days ago and it's been good with 12-13 reds already but 3 killed and ripped up.

Guess it's time for dad to lend a helping hand there. 1 last jersey coyote to contend with.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 01/17/19 04:56 PM

1976 I killed a coyote in Clearfield County PA. Still had lots of fox thru the 1980's . In 2009 I spent some time on my old Clearfield County fox line. Found lots of coyote tracks and NO fox tracks. In Maine where I trap coyotes I get 5-10 fox each year. So far only one fox has been harmed while in my trap. IMO coyotes will be a BIGGER problem on the Eastern Shore than they will be in SE PA.

1976

Maine fox had a coyote in a trap <50 feet from the fox.

That's a great picture of you EB! Why do you think yotes pose a bigger problem on the eastern shore than in sepa?

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 01/17/19 06:11 PM

Thanks, JK. The photo is only 42 years old. My cabin burnt in 1977, cause of fire unknown.

Too much human activity in SE PA.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 01/17/19 08:11 PM

Great pics. Beaglador, they’re really taking off here now. Still plenty of reds but depending on the piece, they’re really laying waste to the reds in snares. On the one farm now, in less than 1 week they’ve killed 4 that were in the cable.

Re: Eastern Shore Coyotes - 01/18/19 01:43 AM

I trap from Berlin to Pocomoke, mostly around Snow Hill. Newark seems to be where a lot of the coyote activity has been. 2 that I’ve killed were on my family farm in Newark/cedartown. The other was snow hill. Neighbor farmer shot one as well, and a guy brought me one to skin ( so he could have tanned ) during rifle season - was killed in Newark
