Old saw goes like this . . . It's not how many dogs are killed each year in traps, it's whose dog gets killed.

All those whizzin' and moaning about Wisconsin having to enclose #220s and run cable restraints instead of snares, watch this very closely. Read and heed.

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/15/19 12:04 PM

“My main reason,” he said, “is that I hope whoever set these traps learns what happened. ”Clark, a retired mine regulator, said Wednesday he realizes the proposal named for his dog would not have saved Roxy’s life. She was killed in November at a recreation area of the federal Bureau of Land Management that already is off-limits to trappers.

So, these traps were set illegally according to current law and restrictions. The man behind this new bill really just wants revenge on the person responsible for his dogs death. Admitting this new bill would not have saved the dog, or any other animal caught by the already illegal traps. Here is where an unbiased media could call BS on this completely inane, arbitrary, and ineffective bill. I’ll be calling.

I thought of this after reading the comments in the news link and then read the story about the Florida city needing coyotes trapped. I DO NOT want this to go through and called up there today , but ,if it does i hope pets disappear like the rapture just took place . Own it .

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/17/19 11:43 AM

NM allows nonresident trapping under the same rules as residents. The only difference is license cost and where cats must be tagged. Losing NM will be like when we lost CO. A loss for every trapper nation wide.

I'll shoot out some e-mails this evening. This was an illegally set trap right? Want to know so I can word my e-mails properly. Example letters/e-mails would be appreciated.

It was an ilkegal set trap.yes but it realy dont add up
Posted By: Steelflight

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/17/19 07:54 PM

First off why would you set on a well worn hiking trail? Secondly why take the risk of catching a dog? On public land that is. Is it that appealing? The bill is pretty petty all that needed to be done was set a watchfor the trapper. He would have come around.especially if you left the bobcat there.oh well.

We have a hard fight coming this session. The NMTA, Cattle Growers, Farm Bureau and others are fighting along side of us. I expect an anti trapping bill to be introduced next week. We have the FTA,NTA and Sportsmens Alliance on board also. All phone calls and emails are greatly appreciated when this bill comes

Billboards and other advertisements for banning trapping are going up according to local news.
The advertisements are donated by one anti group and show another anti group on the advertisements. That why I didn't post a link or pics

K9 NM is mainly public land. The traps were illegally set.
Posted By: K9man

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/22/19 04:49 AM

I get it, and understand that there are two types of public land. Public land that the public uses and public land that trappers/hunters use. Too bad these laws don’t know the difference and if passed will make a lot of land inaccessible to trappers.
Posted By: adam m

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/22/19 02:36 PM

K9man, no disrespect but the public land here is one in the same. It's the hunters trappers and anglers that fund the
Maintenance and improvements to said land. Yet everyone else thinks it's theirs and their little dogs too. Several large cities and numerous towns are within 30 minutes of said land. The thinking of separation of lands to strictly hunters and trappers is the kind of thinking california Arizona and Colorado have implemented.

I've lived in Albuquerque most of my life which has NF mountains that butt up against the city's east side. Yet most people in Albuquerque don't think hunting and trapping occur there. Yet every year hunters & trappers are harassed there, dogs off leash blow hunts and hundreds of people are using the nf throughout the week yet don't pay a cent. The same can be said with numerous other nf lands throughout the state.

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/24/19 03:52 PM

Those comments on that page are so inacurate. This one guy said that trapping has been banned in California...I mean it might as well be banned considering we can only use rat traps and cage traps for commerce in fur, but come on!

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/26/19 03:01 PM

I called every one of them and left messages. I brought home another dog this year that witnesses said was dumped along with 2 others several days before. he is now part of my family. this makes the 11th I have brought home and found new homes.

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 01/26/19 06:02 PM

They way I interpret the bill is no trapping at all on public land including cages unless done by a government agency or contracted person

From the parts I watched I was impressed with the trappers there even women and young girls represented trapping. Thank you all.
The anti's kept repeating this is barbaric and archaic and had several wildlife biologists in support.

My understanding is the battle continues saturday. I could be wrong. For those that were there or streamed please correct me if I am wrong.

If passed, this bill will give the State Game Commission the authority to protect all species of wildlife including non-game species. The Commission will have the ability to make any and all changes to trapping and hunting regulations, bypassing the legislative process. One tip for emailing - Only send your email to about 20 legislators at a time so your email doesn't get classified as SPAM. You can copy and paste the contents and send multiple emails in a row but 20 or so recipients will keep your email from disappearing into the junk folder. (As always, be respectful and professional)

Sorry for the delay guys
Basicaly the bill has passed two comitees in the house and is now up for debate and vote on the house floor
Despite lots of opposition to the bill its progressing

If it passes thru the house debate it goes tgru the senate comitee and then to the senate floor for debate and final passge then to the governer
Were hopeing it dies soon. The calls and emails are working i will update the original post
We have to hammer all legislators in the house now list below
here's a list of reps to send emails to on HB 366

One tip for emailing - Only send your email to about 20 legislators at a time so your email doesn't get classified as SPAM. You can copy and paste the contents and send multiple emails in a row but 20 or so recipients will keep your email from disappearing into the junk folder. (As always, be respectful and professional)

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 03/01/19 07:02 PM

I sent my emails, here is what I said if it helps anyone with a start on theirs:

"Please do NOT allow HB 366 to pass. Public land is for EVERYBODY and banning regulated trapping on public land will not only take income from families, but the results of removing trapping from the environment has devastating results on wildlife through overpopulation, disease, and millions of dollars lost to attacks on livestock. Please consider other states who are having issues with these problems, such as Colorado, who banned trapping in 1996 and now their government has to spend millions to clean up the mess it has caused. This bill was created and pushed by animal rights activists who are fueled by emotion rather than science, and once they take away trapping, they will also take away hunting and many other revenue generating sports that should be allowed on public land. The facts are, modern day traps are humane, and regulated trapping is necessary for a healthy ecosystem. Thank you for your time."

Praying for you guys in NM, as a public land trapper in WI myself, I can't believe how scary it must be to think of trapping being taken away. Please keep us updated!

Travis , Please hear me out on this , The Uprising Must Be from within The State of New Mexico First (1st) for The New Mexico State Legislature and State Senate To REALLY LISTEN (I MEAN REALLY LISTEN) , Then Of Course Surrounding States throughout America Can come ALL together and Support The State of New Mexico Resident TRAPPERS . The State of New Mexico State Legislature and State Senate and Governor WANT TO HEAR FROM New Mexico Residents , they Live and Breath and Sleep there EVEYDAY and they WILL LISTEN TO YOU FOLKS , 95%+ MORE .

In this Era of time 2019 that is the way MOST States Operate .

Ask Wayne , There was an Era long ago when The States would take Consideration More from Out-of State folks about Home State Permanent Laws being Enacted and Passed and Sealed by The Governor , But Times has Changed Drastically ,and although Trapping , Hunting , Fishing Is For The People of The States , The Home State Folks Rule The Roost , Especially in 2019 Era .

I Believe I can speak for ALL PEOPLE ON THIS SITE "WE ALL OPPOSE" ALL BILLS AND ALL & "ANY" THREATS TO TRAPPING (110%+) and , HUNTING AND FISHING AND all Outdoor Sports .

Of Course We ALL CAN Phone and E:mail ALL Committee Members of the State of New Mexico Legislature and Senate and Governor , but it Is My Honest Opinion in 2019 , If these phone calls and E:mails are Not coming from Within The State of New Mexico , ALL of them attempts may just be Filtered , ALL OF THEM , (EVERYTHING) As Spam or Robo Calls . Just My 10 cents buddy . God Bless The Trappers Of The State of New Mexico .

We (nonresidents) may not have the influence of those within the state, but every little bit helps. I received replies to some of my emails, so they're obviously not all getting filtered. Some may have been auto-email replies but others were not and they thanked me for my input.

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 03/17/19 08:56 PM

I would like to thank everyone spoke up and helped to defend New Mexico's freedom to trap. It makes a big difference when we are united for a cause. Some may think "I am just one person, they will not listen to me," but it can and does make a difference. Win or lose each and every one of us is important. Once again thank you for helping and a special thanks to Joe Luna and the New Mexico Trappers Association.

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 03/18/19 03:10 AM

Not that anybody cares but California will lose all the rest of their trapping as well as become a fur free state with a total ban on the sale of any fur garments by the close of this legislative session.

I just don't see anything stopping it here.

Congratulations New Mexico!

Re: NM trapping ALERT need HELP!! - 03/20/19 02:32 PM

Congrats to New Mexico. Mercer, it is not that no one cares for California. It is a great and beautiful state with millions of fine people. However, the good, common sense folks, people who are very like those who built California now are a minority and have about no voice and the rest of the people of California scare the daylights out of most of us for fear that is what might happen to us as well. I surely wish you all the best but see no method of being of assistance beyond that well wish.
