I can't tell any difference. It all makes your eyes water. Mustard is a condiment you put on a sandwich. It is also the fatty substance that gets sucked out of the gland when extracting the essence. Don't put that on a sandwich.

Civet (western spotted skunk) gets a slightly sweet smell to it as it ages. I also think it smells distinctly different when fresh. It definitely commands more $$$ from select lure makers.

It all stinks but spend enough time around it then your sniffer is not as sharp and before you get accustom to it!

Jerry you separate that mustard and send it to me. I am told it isnt any good according to some lure makers, just wasted material. smile Looks to be about 5-6 oz. of that junk in those bottles. I will be waiting..

Striped Skunk has a Hydrocloric Acid (sp) base, and Spotted Skunk is, I think, Sulphuric Acid based, each with different odors.

my opinion a civit wont last near as long as skunk.. when i was a kid got sprayed by civet quite often ... now that i think bout it wonder if they let loose easier than a skunk... been years since i caught a civet.

I agree BP, spotted is a sweater smell for sure. Still not sure which is worse to get sprayed with.

Old Harvey told me when I was young that "all skunks smell like money". Told stories bout selling "star" skunks for a day's wages. To me striped skunk smells "sweet"- what stinks worse to my nose is mink.
