A good read is about the men who fought the British at FT. Vincennes during the Revolutionary War.
These guys waded through marshes and swamps, sometimes in chest deep water during the winter to go and fight the King's soldiers.
Some starved along the way and as rations ran out, they ate the leather off their shoes. SHEESH - makes me feel like a sissy!!

The "boys" above couldn't cross the street in the rain.
Parents have coddled them beyond measure and they don't even live in reality.

Great humor always has a hint of truth, and those are funny and sad all at the same time.

JMO but Hollywood is shaping this country. Just look what is on T.V. for our kids to watch. Commercials look at them. On almost ever show there is at least an off sex let call them. Always an American Black on ever show or commercial. Black and/on white every where. The hole gamut.

I get the point and I will not point out the flaw (we all know what it is), but I do have a question. What percentage of our military comes from the cities? Just wondering if the numbers match.

A good read and an incredible tale. Unfortunately, it also reminds us.............as if we need reminding...........of how poorly our federal government treats those who help defend us.

Too many of our citizenry is made up of men and women who breed without any kind of plan for actually raising a child. It is almost like we admire "unwed single mothers" who struggle. Instead we should allow some shame to be recoganized as the proper sentiment for women who care so little about their child that they bring it onto the world without a father figure tohelp raise and support it.

It would be great if more fathers were in the picture, but baby-mommas and baby-daddies ain't cuttin' it.

It should be mentioned, we still have lots of fine, respectable young men in this country.

I worked with teenagers for 34 years(retired a few months ago) and have seen many changes in that time. There have always been a percentage that will make nothing of themselves no matter how much we try to help them. And there are some who will be high fliers and lead incredibly productive lives.

Every generation seems to focus on the failings of the younger generations while giving very little credit to the leaders in the group.

Finster it's sad but true. Heck you don't even see young "men" hold a door for a lady anymore or walk a woman to the door when it's dark. Age 30 and above maybe. I do because I was raised right and I don't want my grandparents to come back and haunt me. That's like cussing in front of a lady. Me and and my wife are getting ready to share 18 years together next month. I still try not to use foul language around her or any woman.

This argument is nothing new... The aging generation always resents the younger generation.

This seems to imply that being an American Black has something to do with being a man, and that there's something wrong with interacial relationships. I understand the illegitimate birth rate among blacks is 70%, which is just enormous, that's a cultural issue, not a skin color issue. Black men don't knock up women and leave because of their skin color, they knock up women and leave because of a rotten culture. If anything, black boys need to see MORE black role models on television and commercials, not less. Maybe I misunderstood the comment, and somebody can explain it better.

In any case, divorce and fatherlessness plays a huge role in the lack if manhood these days. With a divorce rate of around 45%, it's no wonder boys have no real role model to look up to. Interestingly, millenials have a lower divorce rate than older people, but it's still just ridiculously high.

90%+ of this country is pathetically weak.

If it's a cultural issue and and nothing to do with skin color then why do the role models you say they need on tv need to be black?

They don't need to be black. They can be any color. They'd probably like to see that there are black men who are actually men, unlike the "man" that fathered them, that it's cool for a black man to grow up, get married, have babies, and work a good job. Are you saying it is, in fact, a skin color issue?

The simple answer is the break down of the family and the black family has been hit hardest by this, by design if you ask me. A young mans role model should be his father.

I see how when I said "If anything, black boys need to see MORE black role models on television and commercials, not less.", maybe I should have said "it would be good for black boys to see more black role models". That's more what I meant.

And yes, boys need male role models, regardless of skin color. It's good for a little boy to see that someone like them (not necessarily someone that looks like them, for example, a boy from a drug house can benefit from a role model who used to be an addict to show them they don't have to repeat that pattern), but the important thing is for boys to have good role models, period.

Difficult to see a "white devil" as a role model. lol

If you're looking for a role model... Looking on TV would be your first mistake.

Current military or past? In years past, esp during the draft times, the numbers were pretty close, city vs Rural. This would have been during that time known as "the greatest generation" and when they were defeating the Axis powers.
Currently, I think you'll find it slightly more rural simply for economic reasons. Kids in rural communities have less opportunity to elevate their situation than do urban kids. Just how the money shakes out.

Not sure what the hooey is about today it seems like the boys like the boys and the girls like the girls now!

Well, what can be done about it?........ Maybe we can make sure our sons get an education, work part time jobs when they're teenagers, learn to say please and thank you, maybe even take their ball caps off when their in a restaurant or indoor event. There ain't much we can do about them what ain't got no fetchin' ups.

Bill Cosby used to fill that role, but, we all saw how THAT turned out!!
