DPMS Panther Oracle - 02/05/19 03:29 AM

I seen the local big gun dealer in the area has these ( DPMS Panther Oracle 5.56NATO/223 AR-15) for sale at $399. Anybody in the T Man world own one of these? Comments pro or con ? Just wondering how good.... or bad a deal this is? Thanks![Linked Image]

I have no trouble with mine at all. I added a couple custom parts just because, but it OK as is. The trigger is the worst part but its better than some. Good place to start and you can build it into something extremely customized if you ever the desire to do so.

ARs are the small block Chevy of the gun world. There are truckloads of aftermarket parts and the sky is the limit.

I have one. No complaints. I think I'm going to get a 7.62x39 upper for it if PA finally allows the use of semi-autos for deer season. I think it would make a great youth gun.

My 7.62x51 (.308), bigger version of the gun above, runs great, no complaint's at all. That price is a great deal for that gun.

I was told the 5.56/223 price came way down .That is a good price. The 7.56x51 (308win) is what I was told went up. My gunsmith told me alot of people are off loading there 5.56 and trying to get the price they paid for it when before 2017 and that will not happened .

Exactly. Right now AR's are in a race to the bottom.

I am no gun nut by any means, but Windham Weaponry and probably others offer an AR15 in 6.5 Creedmore.
That would be a sweet outfit.
Fellow I work with has that same DPMS and really likes it. He did replace the trigger.

My son works at a machine shop. His boss lets the workers make AR type rifles and the parts for them … when they are off the clock but using the shop machines. I think the guys can even buy parts and steel and the boss pays for it and then takes payroll deduction weekly for payments. My son has made several AR type guns and put suppressors (that he made... and spent the $200 to register them) on a couple last I knew. I have never put together one. But maybe someday I will. My son served 2 tours in Iraq and carried a "saw" the first time and a regular AR the 2nd tour. He loves making them and enjoys shooting them when he can. I feel for the vets who could carry them to defend our country while putting their life on the line but have to listen to the liberals who wants to say they shouldn't have them now that their service is done.

The .270 is too long to fit in a standard ar-15 sized magazine, apparently. That's not to say it can't be done, but it won't work with a standard AR-15 lower. The longest cartridge that will work with a standard AR-15 lower is something like 2.3", the .270 is something like 3.3".

And yes, you can build a nice AR for around $500.

300 black out is the easier way to go same mag same BCG only difference is the barrel and gas tube

you can get an upper with a 300 barrel and reuse your BCG and mags to save $

the 300 black out is a very low recoil , with the 110gr bullets it is about dead even ballistics at 100 yards to 150gr 30-30.

my dad loves his 300 as do I like mine , he has had a number of surgeries on his back and shoulder and is very recoil sensitive , he is back to deer hunting and getting deer , I think he was passing shots with his 12ga.

there are some custom long action AR type rifles that have been built , often in 300 win mag but they are all custom

also understand that the AR 10 platform 308 / 7.62x51 have a few different patterns and you need to know what pattern you are working with gen 1 gen 2 manufactures have their own.

the AR15 being mill spec all the parts fit together there isn't near the issue of what generation it is.

so lets say you want to get a 130gr bullet of approximately 277 to about 2950 fps maybe it would make a lot more sense to go short action AR 10 save a thousand dollars or more to go 7mm-08 .284 yes your going to give up about a 100 fps with the short action but that only changes a 200 yard zero about an inch an a half at 400 yards.

when you have to buy a custom gun at $2500 or more with 100 dollar mag vs a production $1000 gun with 15 dollar mag , 100 fps and 1.5 inches at 400 yards gets easier to take if you are willing to get a little more main stream you can have a 750 dollar gun in 308 you will have to give up 3.5 inches at 400 yards although because it is a heavier bullet your still only giving up 3.5 inches at 500 yards where the lighter bullet starts falling faster.

I have one in .308/ 7.62X51 and I love it. It eats any ammo I put through it, never had a misfeed or failed fire and mine is about a 1" group at 100 yards with NATO surplus ammo.
