2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 02:24 AM

Not as painful as I would have thought but a terrible time to teach my son how to use a setter for the first time

Ouch. Belisle or no? I'm not going to say anything about catching or not catching myself in a 330 or 280 for fear of jinxing myself. But that has gotta hurt.

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 02:40 AM

Bridger. Set with the trigger down in a pretty deep slide. I didn’t like how the trigger was kind of laying down so I grabbed the upper jaws while I was adjusting the dog down below. No gloves and my hand must have been really cold and loosened my grip without realizing it. Lesson learned but glad I wasn’t trapping alone today.

Where's the 1/4 inch deep divot from the dog???
Did your purse cushion the blow, Nancy? smile smile smile

I feel your pain (on more than one occasion).

OUCH! My kid would have learned how to use the setter and "brightened" his vocabulary from my utterances. wink

We need a pic of that hot mess ..tomorrow and the next day....:)..Looks like when the Nuns use to slap your knuckles with the wooden yard stick !

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 03:30 AM

Yea I was a little worried about it slipping off. It would have hurt but I think it would have hurt my son even worse because he was pretty panicked. He thought we should go home right away to take care of my hand, but I convinced him we should get some more sets put in first. If there are beaver in the sets tomorrow he will be learning how to skin them unless my hands work better by then.

That is one club I hope I never have to join. I had to chuckle just a little when you said, it was a poor time to teach your son to use a setter. LOL Best wishes.

I know it hurt but it is a learning experience for your son. I am typing this with bone chip on my thumb bone from a stupid move about 14 years ago. Never did it again.

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 05:46 AM

I never had the pleasure of a 330 but did have a Canada goose smack my knee with a wing bone and it knobbed up pretty good before the snow set in. It was good that you stayed in the cold as that hopefully helped the hand not swell so much. I hope you keep it warm tonight to keep the blood flowing and warm tomorrow in mittens so it does not stiffen up. Keeping it warm and flexing it is all you have. God heal you as I also hit the top of my hand with a hammer and that knobbed up too. I know it is not much comfort, but at least it does not seem to be a deep bone bruise as they take a long time to heal. You should be good to go in a few days.

Now there's a hands on learning experience you'll both laugh at for years to come. Lucky you had a helper with you, could have been way worse.

Stay calm and go and get the &#@%ing setter...Glad your ok- time to make some paracord necklaces for back-up

I don't think anyone makes a "no-hands" setter

Anybody that traps much will end up wearing one at some point. I have done it more than once, slow learner.

As bad as it hurts getting your hand in there the most painful part is always when you hit the end of the chain running.

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 04:02 PM

FYI Don't final tune adjust the springs with the trap across your thigh standing there setting it. When it goes off its too close to the goodies!

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 04:48 PM

I was lucky when I joined th3 330 club. It was laying flat on ice, set, when it fired off one safety broke & one held . Jumped off the ice & grabbed me just above the wrist. One spring is more than I ever want to do again !!!

For sure about being glad you weren't trapping alone. Unless your name is Houdini, you're not getting out with both hands caught in a 330.

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 07:55 PM

Lol I've been caught by one hand on more than one occasion but thankfully I've never been nailed by both at once. That's one of those things that'll make your hemorrhoids shoot out there like a rose bud on a long stem.

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 08:14 PM

I got fingers caught in 330 once , it hurt for weeks on thumb , i don't like 330s, for that, 280 is probly worse, not lot use for them as got be complely submerged, with 330s only, I have tongs within reach, when setting. Out even, I do not want both hands in 1 ever. I alwsys byself, u would be fine, in trouble with both hands in 1, emergency. , U never ever want that happen no matter what

Re: 2 hands in a 330 - 02/11/19 08:15 PM

Tom sez "where's the safety grippers?" But you already explained that your safety grippers (hand) failed for some reason. Leastways, thats what i always use for safety grippers!

Welcome to the club.
