Anyone had Shingles

Anyone had Shingles - 03/24/19 02:36 AM

In another site I visit they have been talking about shingles and everyone gets the shots. I have not taken the shots and I don't plan on taking the shots.

About 7 years ago I had them and it was on my neck and going down to my shoulder. I had NO pain or itching just an ugly rash so I finally went to the doctor and said I was to late for him to do anything but have me a cream to put on. He said the rash marking would stay for ever and I would always see where the rash was. Well, it totally disappeared and can't see where it was at today.

Are you taking shot and have you had them?

I’ve never had shingles. I just finished taking the second round of the new shingles vaccine.

Older brother had twice, not long apart and nothing helped- waist to neck and both sides. When the shot became available at the VA, it was no-brainer for me. Got a new type shot recently that involved a second part a month later.
My wife broke out with shingles in her eye some years ago and that lead to several operations including cornea transplant and ongoing care for ever coupled with partial blindness.
If you had chicken pox as child or "cold sores" you already have the virus inside you just waiting for the right time to erupt.

If you didn't have any pain, no itching, and no scars maybe you didn't have shingles.
My wife had shingles starting in January of 2018. They were on the left side of her head, ear, neck, face, shoulder and breast. They were terrible sores and the pain and itching was nearly unbearable. She took two or three different kinds of medication plus an anti-itch cream. It took her about three months to get over them and you can still see marks on her face and neck.

A fellow near us had shingles and lost hearing in his left ear.

I took the two shot vaccine as soon as it was available in my area. It might not prevent the shingles but if I do get them maybe they won't be as bad as hers.

Yes I had them 5 years ago. I went for a noon run with a guy who was in better shape then me. I wasn't properly hydrated. I pushed to keep up and didn't think much of it. A few days later I noticed a prickly sensation on my scalp that would last a few seconds, but weird feeling like the prickly heat.

Shortly after that there was a burning sensation in my throat every time a I drank something. Thought I had a sore throat. Drove 4 hours away for memorial day weekend leave. Now my throat was on fire. And my left ear in the canal was hurting very badly. Couldn't get off the couch or eat or drink anything other than tea. Sickest I've been and the longest 4 hour drive back ever. I went to emergency sick all the next day and a rash was breaking out across my face. First visible sign. They immediately diagnosed shingles, but me on anti-viral, and it cleared right up.

It was the nerve that runs in the ear canal, down the throat and across the face. No scars now.

I was very young to get shingles. Doctor explained it was the heat exposure on that run that did it, most young guys with shingles are comprised by heat exposure.

I have no idea but that is what the doctor said I had, you can argue with him about that. Lol I did have a tingling feeling and a different feeling in that area but not pain. I went because the rash was ugly and it wasn't going away. I had it for a long time for the rash to go away and I could see where it was for a long time but totally today you can't see where it was at. Things do effect people differently though.

Sometimes I think the diagnosis of a same ailment does affect people different in regions of our country.

Someone with shingles in Montana may be affected different than someone in Texas.

And I don't want to argue with anyone about anything right now.

Give me a few weeks and that might change.

The discomfort caused by shingles is bizarre. It is like a ghost pain. You scratch the rash, but the discomfort is much deeper. The virus which was originally in the form of chicken pox from a long time ago, stays dormant in your nervous system. Maybe that is why it hurts deeper rather than on the rash itself.

I had them some years ago and went to the VA and my doctor gave me some pills for it .It went away .It was on my lower back. I ask him about the shot . He told me it will not stop you from getting it again so there was no need to get it . It was a pain to have .

have had them 4 0r 5 times, from what others say my cases are very mild, painful but not excruciating, mostly confined to around my waistline. I don't get the shots.

I've never had it. My wife, who worries all the time about things she can't control, has had them, after having the first shot. That first shot was kinda ineffective, and she has had them twice. Neither time was real bad and left no scarring.

I had a cousin that died from them. He was only in his late fiftys, but had them many times on the outsie, and then started getting them on the inside. Think I'd have shot myself! Just kidding, but that had to of been terrible!

I've gotten to where I can't remember things that I want to, but that might be a blessing. I tend to roll with the punches, and hope I'm never hit with that crap! Life is too short to get shingles! lol

I've had shingles for about 20 years. They are just starting to curl on the ends. Thinking about metal this time.

I had shingles on my stomach and above my hips. Unbearable pain. Just a tee shirt rubbing up against it was painful.

I was told to take salt water baths....it didn't help

Re: Anyone had Shingles - 03/24/19 02:06 PM

I am just about over them right now.....I hope!!!

Have had them for 3 weeks. last week was terrible. Spent 2 days with no shirt here at the house. Couldn't stand anything touching the area.

Only rash I got was 2-3 little blisters near my back. The pain was from my naval to my spine on the right side.

Second time I have had them. First time was a very mild bout and on my right thigh.

I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy.
