That is an interesting trap pole for coyotes. Never tried fishing them before.

Congrats on the pole as that should teach anything in freshwater manners in a hurry.

I made one last year and caught my biggest fish ever on it. A 40lbs bluefin Tuna. I’m making my second rod right now. I don’t know if I’ll buy a completed rod again.

Nice rod, just wondering about the length from the reel to the back does it give you better balance? Never used a rod with much more than 6 or 8 inches in length there, but have seen them and if there is an advantage I may have to give them a try.

Leverage. Tuck it under your arm pit and hang on. WHOPPER STOPPER. grin

Fantastic - is that 550 cord wrapped on the handle? What kind of fish will you be trying to catch?
I have always wanted to use a reel like that.

Thanks everyone ! And yes black 550 cored wrap nothing crazy lol. Whole rod is 8' from tip to but and is a saltwater medium action ,which by the way I found out ,yes there is a big difference lol. This is mainly going to be a catfish rod. The saltwater medium really feels like is going to be a great balance between somthing sensitive enough to put the fight in smaller cats but still have the backbone for larger ones ! As for the handle length I kinda just really like a long handle on my rods. One is the leverage in casting and bringing the fish in and two I just love the look lol.

Looks great. If you build another one you might look into a trigger grip reel seat. When you use casting reels they are nice to give a good grip when you cast and reel in.

Build another one!

I like a one piece rod. You did well.

Very nice. That is going to be a dandy Catfish rod. As soon as you use it you will be planning your next build

You might want to varnish those windings a few more times. Now is the time, before you add a bunch of dirt using it. They will normally show a uniform color through out. When you have enough coats on them, the surface will be relatively smooth. Also a good time to add a secondary winding in a bright color, for night fishing, to increase visibility. Some guys even overwrap reflective tapes and leave like .25 inches above and below the windings to reflect lantern lighting. You'll appreciate that even more as you get older.
