There is all kinds of things to do on the Outer Banks. I always enjoy my time out there. I don't eat out on the Outer Banks.

Re: Nags head/outer banks - 04/13/19 12:34 AM

https://wildhorsetour.com/ and there are other feral horse tours out of Corolla

you will drive up the beach bout 20 mins then go into the town of Carova Beach just south of the Va line

once you pay for the first tour, then, if you have a 4x4, you should go back on your own a day or 2 later and normally see different horses.
1 of our lighthouses is up there too
Jeanette's Pier is a good place to hang for a few hours, too

The "Lost Colony" drama near Manteo is good. If in season.

The aquarium is nice. The Lost Colony is a must see. Roanoke Island park. Eat lunch at Poor Richards sandwich shop on the waterfront in manteo. Wright brothers memorial. Jockeysridge. Cape hatteras lighthouse, Bodie Island lighthouse, corolla lighthouse. If the weather is forecasted to be nice you could call pirates cove, obx marina and Oregon Inlet Fishing center and see if either of them have a makeup charter with room. We like Sam and Omies and Basnights Landing for supper. I’ll be there in a month for our annual yellowfin trip.

There was some restaurant there where I had my first soft shell crab. Couldn't believe what I had been missing all these years. Now my favorite seafood!!!

I saw the "Lost Colony" a long time ago and just remember being very bored, being eaten alive by mosquitoes and the word "CROATOAN" being carved on a tree.

I’ve had similar experiences with online third party bookings. The money saved was not worth the hassle.

VRBO shows 86 listings for Nags Head if your looking. Cheapest was around 105/night.

This time of the year you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a hotel. Once may rolls around it get real tough finding a last minute room.

Went and stayed a week st Salvo on the OBX. We visited Wright Bros, Shipwreck museums, 3 lighthouses-(that you can drive to). Rented one of the vacation rental houses on the beach. Not a bad spring break getaway. Some tourist stuff wasn’t open for business but we still had a great time.
If I ever go back I’ll check in on doing some fishing...

Re: Nags head/outer banks - 04/17/19 02:06 AM

The word “Croatan” is the indian name for mosquito and that is why it was carved on the tree by the last of the survivors of the Lost Colony.

Mulligan’s in Nags Head for lunch or dinner, if you are near Manteo go to Wanchese to O’neal’s Seafood in Wanchese Seafood Park, killer lunch served there.
Hurricane Mo’s in Kitty Hawk has the best Crab bisque or clam chowder, Black Pelican has a great white seafood pizza cooked in a wood burning over with scollops and shrimp.

Starting to catch a few speckled trout here and there on the beach.

Don’t worry about the mosquitos, rattle snakes, bears or alligators too much, be scared to death of the ticks!
