.9 ADDED TO GAS PRICE PER GALLON - 04/16/19 06:12 PM

I know that the extra .9 cents per gallon was added during the depression years when a penny meant something, but why do we continue to have that outdated custom? Nearly everyone will quote the price as (whatever) point nine, instead of rounding it up. I don't think the phsycology is still needed today to get you to buy gas. -------just wondering--

Good point.

The price just keeps going up. Anybody know what excuse they're using to try to justify the rising gas prices this time?

Here they are transforming over to "summer" blend. And just had a fire at the local refinery. Went from 2.3---- to 2.8------. Of course our new gov. also added .39 to it and he isn't done yet. Wants to tax everyone for each mile they drive.

It was a loop hole around the law on taxes back in the day. It's not 14 cents but 13.9 back in the day with taxes and a tax rolled in on the top of a cent price
.....you remember when cartoon of beer was cheaper than case of Pepsi

Same reason retail stores show a price of $6.99 instead of just saying $7.

The .9 cents is a phycological thing
But, for some reason the Governor of Minnesota has no problem asking for an additional tax of a full 20 cents.

Our new governor is adding a tax of .45 per gallon (over the next 3 years) to help "pay for road repair".
Our previous governor added a tax of .27 per gallon for the same reason, and the roads were never touched.
I'm glad somebody's getting rich.....

That's because I read somewhere that Minnesota is ranked 12th for the highest gas prices in the US. He wants to see our ranking rise to about 3rd behind CA & NY.

Out of all these states raising taxes on gas how many are democratic controlled?

I am curious as I think the Democratic party will try to influence our economy so Trump will look bad.

Gas prices effect everything.
