Well I'll be, I always figured he would find enough ambition sooner or later.

Lone Star and Beaver trapping go well together...

Not quite so sure if Lone Star pairs well with anything Nessy.

Texas isn't any different than any other state I have visited. lots of land, varying types of land, hot, cold.......

He always hated it when we were trapping together and I was wading in cold water. But he laughed his rear off when I would bust my butt in the water.

He'll get his cowboy boots wet if he's not careful.

I think he has wised up. His foot was in one of the pictures he sent me. He was wearing rubber boots or waders.

Neither are you....it's a brain size determination to begin with. Has nothing to do with physical stature . smile

The smaller the brain the better the beaver trapper.

I believe it was Paul Dobbin's dad who once said all it takes to be a beaver trapper is a size 44 coat and a size 4 hat.

True enough, it does take a bit of hard head to live in northern Minnysota.

...y’all yanks (and Canadians) can make a ruckus over nothin better than a sounder of overfed Pentecostal gals in their mating season lol

....bottom line is I’d have never knelt so low as to set a beaver trap had it not have been for money...now I know how the women of ill repute feel ...

I’ve trapped barn rats that were more of a challenge lol

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/18/19 04:58 AM

I'm sure barn rats taxed your ability. I'm happy to hear beavers are so much less complicated for you to figure out.

Figured beaver would go well with frog legs. It would be kinda like surf and turf, if'n ya know what I mean.

....be just fine I imagine ...if weren’t for shallow water and highs of 90 lol

And those cottonmouths are just a challenge factor to overcome. Just pay attention and you'll do fine.

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/18/19 05:26 AM

I fight cottonmouths just for sport... and eat beaver with no seasoning

....found a sheep killin coyote with his hind legs on the levers of a #2 bridger in my shed last night ...he said he might as well go on and get it over with lol

They are like catching big muskrats, More exercise. I feel bad about killin' them myself, 'cause they're so easy.

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/18/19 10:27 AM

That is one thing I do NOT miss about beaver jobs after the first of April. Darn Charlie no shoulders sliding off them steep banks and hitting on your back or just missing you. Any normal human will find they can do things never thought possible, until one is draped around your neck.

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/18/19 11:14 AM

Savell,
There are coyotes out there right now reading this getting plumb upset and jealous.
Since you're spending more time in the water now, some of these canines have gotten together and decided by straw vote that select members of their dog clan will commit hari kari and stick their neck in your 330's.
The dog line misses you bad and can't live without ya.
You'll see them dead in your drainage funnel points very soon. smile

Sheepdog you better fess up and tell Savell that the beaver thinks he caught was a roadkill you planted in his trap....lol

Anyone can catch a beaver, but when you are doing ADC work, catching the last one can be the tricky part.
Young, stupid ones which don't know how to build a dam yet, but figure it out 3 weeks after you pull out, and smart ones which you have provided a masters degree in avoidance are what makes beaver trapping what it is. (You fill in the blank, I have some right now giving me fits.)

A fresh piece of poplar.....stuck in the mud at the waters edge....with a foothold in 4 inches of water in front of it.....I guarantee it !!

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/19/19 03:55 AM

I've been using them red and white striped candy canes you get at Christmas. No other trapper does it, or has ever in history tried it. I got the patent on that idea.

Yehaaaw!

Castor goes behind the candycane.
Posted By: Sheepdog1

Re: Savell is now a beaver trapper - 05/19/19 03:58 AM

you do the candy cane trick down here and a hog or coon will get it before a beaver hits the water. More likely ants will tote it off shortly after you place it at the set.

Problem with that is, I'd have to drive most of the way to New Hampshire to find even a 4" piece of poplar. smile
