Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/22/1903:00 AM
Now we wait till Monday 8 pm. The last time the Blues were in the Cup Finals was 1970....against the Bruins !! 49 years of Misery. So you Blues Fans can come to Boston and take your Medicine !! Go Bruins !
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/22/1902:10 PM
Surprised by the two finalist teams, especially the Blues, but to me they match up well even if there are differences in skill levels. This year speed was good to win games during the year but during the playoffs it is as much of a slug fest and these two teams emerged as the winners of that method. I think the first couple matches will be crucial in determining who wins. Both teams did an excellent job of back checking on the teams that were using long passing or dumping the puck hoping they could beat the opposition to the puck. Both goalies seem ready for the series.

I don't have a dog in this fight. Just want to see a good series. But I always pick a team to root for in these types of championships so I'm going for the Blues.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/28/1901:26 AM
Blues fan here. Watched Blues defensemanParyako play 4 years at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Marchand has me totally rooting against Boston. Boston got a pretty tough team, though.

Playoff hockey is the best sport to watch......even better than football. Plenty of action...punching in the face...hitting..slashing...high sticking..tripping...spearing...butt ending..cross checking...boarding...on and on....lol
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/28/1902:35 PM
It appears to me that Boston can play harder longer and especially in the 3rd period the Blues looked slow and tired compared to the Bruins and it is just the first game. There were many times when the B's back checking kept the Blues from getting out of their zone and when they dumped the puck the B's beat them to the puck. Hitting hard takes a lot of energy, speed is a natural thing we will see how this plays out.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/28/1904:08 PM
Binnington to me is the best player on the ice, but my God, he can only do so much when Boston is getting twice as many shots on goal. Gonna be a short series if it's 20 - 38 every game
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/28/1911:19 PM
The blues didn't play great. Which they will have to.
They have had one bad game in every round so far. I hope this was their bad game.
I will stir the pot a little here though.....LOL
I told my son earlier yesterday that the first thing you have to beat against Boston is the refs. And I was right. I aint saying the refs beat the blues, but there was certainly some bad calls and no calls that would have meant a difference.
This is going to be a good series...........I think.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/30/1901:04 AM
Can the Blues keep it up ?...Maybe they should run Tuukka again ...or more head shots....Chara should fight that fat pig Maroon with 8:00 left in the 3rd when that out of shape turd has no gas left....lol
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/30/1903:28 AM
The Blues out played the Bruins substantially tonight and finally won the game in OT. I was surprised but glad to see the Blues elevate their energy. With a lot of hitting going on the games are grinders we will see who is still standing after this series is over.
I am not a hockey stat person but does anyone know the difference in scoring in the periods between the short and the long changes? I would be interested to see if there is any real difference between those different shift changes.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/30/1903:36 AM
Got a series now, this is the best hockey of the year. I'm glad to see the blues play all 4 periods tonite and not rollover and die like the other night. The hitting and cheap shooting will have a effect later in the series.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/30/1903:43 AM
Bruins will have to Goon it up in St Louis....like run the goalie a few times...some slashing above the cuff of the glove...with out worrying about the Blues Power Play....cuz it sucks.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/30/1905:22 PM
I miss the old hockey with enforcers and fighting. Kept the cheap shots down a little. Also liked Sea Bass in the movie Dumb and Dumber. Aka Cam Neely my favorite Bruin of all time with Ray Bourque a close second...Go Blues!!!
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 05/31/1901:34 AM
Boston Sports Radio all the buzz today. Said they heard that the Sharks were complaining that the Blues were taking guys out...with dirty hits ...to gain an advantage ( losing players)...Heck ,they ran Tuukka twice last night. If that happened years ago...that guy would have to answer to Wayne Cashman,Jay Miller, Lyndon Byers,Terry O Riley, Shawn Thornton.. and that would only happen once.

Missed this one due to local softball tourney and the Brewers going into the 13h. Ufftaahh!!! as the Norskies would say. Just saw some highlights or low lights if you will. A good old fashioned drubbing from the few minutes I reviewed. Domination like this one can give a team some real confidence and everything from then on seems like down hill instead of up hill. I feel the Bruins will put the heat on the young goalie right away in the next game to see if his confidence is back or gone. Need to be able to shake these things off but we will find out.

Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/02/1911:13 AM
From my seat, the Blues started off the game DOMINATING. I thought it was going to be another long night for Boston, then the 1st 5 minutes of period 1 were over and the wheels completely fell off. Binnigton couldn't stop ANYTHING. Blues defenders were out of position, they kept turning it over in their own zone, they could not convert any scoring oppertunities, they had to have hit the goal post at least 5 times. It was just bad all around. The blues had 29 shots on goal and 2 goals. That is pathetic. Seemed to me, and this is going to sound really simple, but STL literally shot the puck at Rusk, whereas the Bruins shot around Binnington. ANd Bostons PP was insane, Blues PK was the literal opposite.
It was the 1st hockey I have watched that was 0 fun. Hopefully the next few games will at least be competitive.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/04/1901:50 AM
Boston is not beating St. Louis to the puck like the ither games. No tenacity and look tired. That last shift was really long for them and they couldnt get it out of their zone.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/04/1903:32 AM
Blues rebounded better than I anticipated after the last loss. The Blues seem to be playing much harder than the Bruins yet seem to only be able to eke out the wins they get. Did feel that the Blues were coordinated better to slow down the Bruins rushes and took some of their speed out of the game. Will see what is exactly wrong with Chara, he is missed all over the ice but especially putting that size and talent in front of the net.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/04/1911:45 PM
A broken jaw shouldn't stop a hockey player. They'll just wire up his jaw like lacing up a skate. You don't need a slack jaw to shoot skate or bodycheck. Back in the day,Bobby Baun(Leafs) finished a game on a broken leg.He scored a goal.Same game he had his throat cut with a skate. After the game Tim Horton found him laying outside the team bus and he was rushed to the hospital. Can you say tough?
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1912:14 AM
Yup...nobody said he was done for the rest of the playoffs. But it’s just like a cut ovah a Boxers eye.....every Blues player is going to throw a high elbow at it.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1912:22 AM
They can numb a jaw up pretty good and when wired shut it don't move much so it is mostly a matter of pain management and hopefully fitting a helmet and guard that will help somewhat. When my middle brother was walking home from his night job when he was 17 he got jumped by 4 guys and he got a broken jaw and was wired shut for about 5 weeks but that was in 1969. A blender comes in real handy and one of his canines got knocked out so he had an opening to use.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1912:45 AM
I am not a Bruins fan-but give credit to a player like Chara-he is for sure tough enough-don't ever doubt that.I admire his skill and tenacity to play the game-he whooped Evander Kane a while back-so he is just flipping fantastic in my books.

I won't be surprised if he comes back he is getting up there in years this may be his last cup ..... Plus he is a foot taller than most guys so his jaw should be safe up there .... I remember how goofy he looked compared to other players when he entered the league a long time ago ....
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1901:14 AM
I say chara is done for the season and possibly forever in the nhl. he gave it a good effort. Should be interesting how this series plays out without the b's captain.

I know the team looked tired last night ...being down a defenseman has to really wear on the others at this point of the playoffs .... The travel day came at a perfect time for Boston ...
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1907:05 PM
The only way to know if he can play is to play and see how it unfolds. If he could even spell other D men say even 5-10 minutes in a game that would help. What we don't know is how much might the injury impact components of his game.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/05/1911:42 PM
My Moles informed me that Gryzlick is back ...And was at practice today....and got cleared to play Thursday. He was the guy that Sunquist ran into the glass . Chara was not at practice....but will be a game time decision. I don’t think the Goons from St Louis will have a hall pass in game 5 to take liberties, like they did in game 4...Different set of refs. Like Clubber Lang said “ I pity the Fool that that targets Charas Head “
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/06/1901:01 PM
Twenty minutes old might be a little young to be breaking records, but newborn Ann Marie Vancil managed exactly when she became the youngest person ever to be in the iconic Stanley Cup.
For parents Elizabeth and Cyrus Vancil, hockey super-fans, everything came together perfectly.
Their favorite team, the St. Louis Blues, had just pulled off an unlikely win in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals the night before, tying the series. The soon-to-be parents had hosted a watch party in their room at Mercy St. Louis hospital while waiting on Ann Marie to be born, and were thrilled to see their team win, 4-2.
"We had a watch party while I was in labor," Elizabeth told TODAY Parents. "That's what most people do, right?"
Little did the expectant mom know that with Stanley Cup fever sweeping her city, the NHL brought the famous trophy to Mercy St. Louis hospital in the hopes of breaking the record for "youngest baby in the Stanley Cup."
"We did not know, or even think, it was a possibility until the night before," said Elizabeth. "We got word that the Cup might be there in the morning, and that a baby might get to take a picture with it, and that's all we knew."
A family member at the hospital tracked down the trophy; medical staff checked in with Cyrus and Elizabeth to see if they wanted to break the record.
"Beth gave birth, and they took baby Ann over to the examination table, and another nurse I hadn't seen before came and asked me if we wanted Ann to be the Stanley Cup baby," said Cyrus. "We had heard a little bit about it, and I knew Beth would be OK with it, so I went and told her, and before we knew it we had the Stanley Cup coming into the room."
There was just one danger to skate around — there's a lot of superstition around touching the Cup, and the Vancils wanted to make sure they didn't do anything to jeopardize their team's potential win. They were careful to wrap Ann Marie in blankets, and nobody but the Cup's official handler laid a finger on the trophy.
"She didn't touch the Cup. I want to make sure everybody knows that," Elizabeth said.
The hospital even took to Twitter early this afternoon to confirm that they hadn't done anything to risk the Blues' chances at victory.
"No one touched the #StanleyCup there was a blanket barrier!" they announced.
The Vancils are still rooting for their team until the series ends, but they're also thrilled to have secured their own place in the Stanley Cup's history. The last record-holder, the newborn baby of a member of the Blackhawks' executive team, was in the Cup more than an hour and a half after their birth.
"We kind of killed the record," Elizabeth said.
"We think at 20 minutes old, unless they have a doctor that basically takes the baby out and puts it right in the Cup, we've got a good chance at keeping the record," Cyrus agreed.
To make it all better, the entire event was captured on video by NBC Sports.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/06/1911:45 PM
New up date......Chara will be playing with a broken jaw tonight.....we will see what we get from the Grizzled Captain. And Gryzlick skated but didn’t get clearance from the doctors ...so he is out. And the ref crew will be the same crew that Berube bitched about.......
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/07/1905:01 PM
The Blues played very well and were again able to slow the rushes of the Bruins. The goal that was scored by the Blues after the trip should not have been. I heard the announcers explain about being on the offense in the offensive zone so play was not stopped but that was a penalty that should have been called. Would the outcome be different? We won't know.
I am a western division fan but the Blues were not on my radar until late in the season. Their young goalie and picking up O'Riely at the trade deadline have proven to be major positives for their team. O'Riely wins most of his face offs and that becomes key in close matches.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/07/1906:24 PM
The bruins coach is complaining about the cheap shots last night and the refs... totally ignoring that he coaches one of the biggest cheap shot artists of all time. I can cut the irony with a knife.

It was missed call for sure. But the Bruins fans should thank the refs for giving their team and excuse for losing. It's a lot easier than just admitting that they just flatly got outplayed by the blues.

Looks like another suspension for another Dirty High Head Hit on Johansson....it was a weak bone thrown to the Bruins By the NHL...for not calling that obvious slew foot trip on Acchari. And Accahri was lost at the 9 min mark of that game. So far ...2 suspensions in 5 games for the Blues. You know the refs are going to swallow the whistle....so if I was head coach of the Bruins....it’s payback time...you want Old School hockey.....I think that can be arranged. And by the way.....game 7 in Boston ...I guarantee.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/09/1903:53 PM
Should be another great game tonite, does the b's have enough depth to win or will they continue to rollover and hope for a penalty? There's a very good chance that this is the last game of the season.

The NHL feels very bad for the awful officiating the other night.....and iam sure they will help push this to gave 7 ....just for ratings alone and stir up a buzz . But the Bruins will not need any frigging help from any Offical tonight.....4-1 Bruins
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/09/1909:02 PM
There will only be a handful of penalties called tonite, the game is nationally televised. The zebras have to keep the game flowing so it meets it's time frame for its time slot.
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/10/1902:51 AM
Bruins have played very well. The Blues stormed the goal early int the game but got few shots. Bruins do a great job in front of the net blocking shots and getting players out of position. It seems to me that the Blues don't have as good of system or what you want to call it when they enter the offensive zone. Also a lot of passes just off by being behind etc. which does not allow for quick release and Rask is up to the task. The Bruins also are clearing better this game and they have been able to break up the Blues rushes early. Blues will need a better game plan for game 7 or not let the Bruins take them out of their game plan.

I should be a bookie....that empty netter ruined my 4-1 prediction
Re: Bruins vs Blues ..Stanley Cup !! - 06/13/1901:13 AM
Bruins had a period like the Blues have had several times. A lot of shots and time in the offensive zone but could not score. We will see if their lack of scoring will start to cause them to play with more anxiety and or hesitation.
Blues did find ways to open up the middle zone a few times and got better rushes and put the puck in the net.

The guy that won the Conn Smythe played for 3 series with broken ribs happened playing dallas. To come out and lead your team by setting the tone of the game. He tied the record for scoring the most 1st goals of the game in the cup final.

I figured it'd be nothing but crying about game 5
Was that the game Acchari was slew footed in front of the blind ref (That was supposed to ref game 7... But was excluded) and no penalty was called....and we lost Acchari for the last 9:00 of the game ?

He also decided to make a line change which resulted in a St. Louis goal with 8 seconds left in the period .... A major turning point in the game IMHO .... Largest ratings for a NHL game since 1994 .... Good news for the NHL ....
