Why are they so low right now? I'm fairly new to trapping , three years, but I think we average about 60 bucks less a fisher this year than other years. What is the reason for that?

Makes it hardly worth targetting them.

The auctions in Canada lead the market............. Both ways, UP and DOWN.

I remember back in the glory days getting 350 bucks for a fisher.
Prices for fisher right now are in the tank.
They were acceptable up until a couple years ago when they couldn't clear them and the prices dropped.
Fisher is a hard skin to work with because of the character of the skins. It takes a very good designer to craft a nice looking garment out of fisher.
The Italian master furriers created gorgeous unique garments and trim out of fisher back in the day, unfortunately the chinamen don't have those skills, nor do they want to learn since they are all about mass production ranch fur that requires no designing/manufacturing skills to work into a garment.
They still cant even figure out beaver, one of the easiest wild fur pelts to master regards design/manufacture.

Boco when was the glory days your referring to? Back in the 80s? I remember trapping with my father back then when a guy could make a decent living off fur. We used to target mostly reds around here but now I release all the ones I catch if I get to them before the yotes do.

Late 70's into the 80's.
That was when the fur market was western Europe and North America.

I remember getting $ 250 for females, $ 100 for the males. They are my favorite furbearer. I think this year I will vacuum seal those that I catch , put them in the freezer, and see what happens.
I will not set any traps for mink.

First legal fisher I took in Northern Wisconsin(numerous earlier released or turned in) was a carefully selected small extra pale female that sold for 300. Males were much lower priced. We had a draw for a single tag some years and I used cages to select the one to tag.
