Foothold pan adjustment question - 06/20/19 11:00 PM

I not into mods. I just respring if needed an keep traps from rust out, I speed dip traps a few wks back. Was checking tags an cleaning off dip on triggers, dogs, with file an sandpaper. an checking pan height an close hair trigger. So I pull pan down until as hair trigger as can, most traps. U go so far. An if any futhor, the pan well move a lil byself an fire. So is that way to go with water traps for mink. Coon,? u cannot set so slightest movement it fire, as if get pan that far down, it move byself, when let go an fire. Like I say, I not into nite latch an all this other stuff

You may have to close the dog eye some, so you don't get pan creep and fired traps. I like some pan travel in my water traps.

So lil pan movement in water traps. Even for mink is fine. I talking about pan travel. As when it step on. An if pressure took of pan. It well continue to travel an spring byself , I have never crimp dogs tighter to trap, not sure how that helps, is it important at all for mink water trapping ?

I hate hair triggers for ANYTHING. I like plenty of pan creep before firing. Even on my coyote traps. Half notch or more on my mink/rat, coon traps. But I have about zilch as far as pan tension... Just what works best for me, I/ve found (after lots and lots of hair trigger failures).

To each his own, however.

I agree about pan tension, but I always hair triggered my marsh rats, figuring in,out and down was my best practice, just my own prejudice in thinking.

It eliminates slop/movement of the dog, so it goes up/down without going in/out
